Jump range reduced as I approach the core

So on my travels so far, I have been plotting routes of 600ly and jumping 20 or 30 jumps at a time and making great progress. However as soon as I passed the 1000ly mark towards the core, I seem to be able only to plot courses of 30ly (basically the jump range of my ship).

this last 1000ly is going to be painfully slow having to plot each 30ly individually.

any ideas guys?

The route planner does not like the Core. There is a way round it though, you need to work out a magic number that is close to an exact multiple of your jump range. Routing to systems at that range will plot almost instantly, otherwise it can take a looooong time, or even crash the game.

see this thread for an explanation:

If you are on the Distant Worlds Discord chat, we have a bot that will work it out for you. :)

Thanks for your answer :) Thought I was going mad

What is Distant Worlds Discord?

A place where the sane are scared to venture. Make sure someone knows where you are before you enter.
:D

The Distant Worlds expedition uses Discord as one of its fleet comms. If you're on the DW mission, you can get access to it. The link is in the main DW thread.

Otherwise, a quick job with a calculator and you're golden :)

So I am now on my way back to Sol. As I approached the core (with 1000ly) my route planner went haywire and would only let me jump 30ly. I figured its ok because as I travel home it will sort itself out. However I am now nearly 1800ly from Sagittarius A and my route planner will still only let me jump 30ly. When is this likely to sort itself out? I really don't want to limp home 24,000ly at 30ly at a time :)

Verify if you haven't set the cargo slider bar to something resulting in 30 ly jumps ?
(found in the galmap screen, search tab)

It varies, mine didn't go back to normal until I was 5KLY past the core.

Its good to hear that I am not the only one. I'll continue to limp homewards and hope it sorts itself out sooner rather than laterbtw thanks for the tip on the slider, I did check and it appears ok though :)

I've really tried this and just can't seem to get any jump over my jump range. My jump range is 32.64ly and if I try to plot anything over that I'm waiting until I get too bored. I've tried plotting exact multiples too but to no avail :(

Its weird because on my way to the core all was ok until 1,000ly prior to Sag A, since then I'm limited to 30ly jumps. I'm now over 2,000ly from the core and still limited :(

If you do the calculation in the linked thread, you can still plot routes of 800-1000 LY, you just have to find the range at which it will work.

That's all fine, i misread your problem (as individual jump getting shorter instead of unable to do routes). That problem is simply linked to the density of stars in the core and the way the router works (trying to do a lot of permutations to reach some kind of semi-optimal route but taking far too long for it to be useful).
I don't think there's much to do except trying to outsmart the route computer by trying to work on routes of a specific distance like advised in this thread linked by Wolverine.

If you have empty cargo racks you might try maximizing your cargo slider to reduce your jump range. Some have reported that shorter max jump range reduces this calculation lag significantly (it's hard to know if it's really max jump range, though-- on my trip to the core I never had trouble calculating routes, but is that because my max jump range was 19.7, or is it because my computer is better suited to the calculations (for whatever set of reasons) than yours).

Will do, now climbing lol
Hi Ronin,

Travel vertically up or down for about 500Ly-1000Ly and it should help. Star density is much lower if you go up/down a bit.

No empty cargo racks as I stripped my ship to bare minimums to increase jump range. Going to try climbing vertically as suggested by Alex. Now I think about it, on my in to the core I was a lot higher than I am now and that might explain why I am still having problems

I'm high up now above the core and about 2,500ly from Sag A. All systems back on line and functioning. Now dashing for Sol to download all my hard earned data :)

on my second trip to the core i had the chance to experiment with the plotting of routes. i did find that there are Magic Multiples i found that plotting 245Ly for my build was almost instantaneous. i also went up 1500Ly from Sag and had no issues with plotting at all so maybe coming across the top (or underneath) and then dropping down may actually be quicker as you will only need to deal with slow plots for the last 1500 Ly.

Incidentally i am now 2000Ly up heading rimwards and 900-1000Ly plots are no problem there.
