Ships Jump Routing

After the Cobra (and previously Viper)I am only limited to where I can jump, in the case of the Cobra that is limited to the Eravate system and nowhere else. hat's after upgrading the following; Power Distributor, Power Generator, FSD and adding a C2 Fuel scoop.

In the case of the Viper including a similar upgrade package I could get a little further but not by much. In each case I reverted back to my hauler and there is no problem travelling any distance with that ship.

Doe's anybody have the same issue or an answer please.

Thanks

No, not really. Just optimize for what role you want it to perform. If you want inexpensive distance and speed to make some hauls with, for example, get rid of your weapons and utilities, sell everything that uses potential cargo space except for the shield generator which you want to fill the highest class you can (presumably), and then get all D rated components for the rest. You also want the default lightweight alloys.

That should give you plenty of jump range between systems in populated space. If you want to jump further, you can go for a higher end frame shift drive and a high class fuel scoop. If you want something else, then go for that.

High rated FSD combined with lower ship weight gives a higher jump distance (in LY).
The hauler does naturally have a higher jump range than the others by the ships design. The Cobra should however be able to make a good 18LY jump even fully loaded.

Check the module class of the FSD. If you've thrown a class 1,2 or 3 module in you won't get far even with A rated FSD's since they would be "undersized" for that ship which would usually use a class 4. <- I suspect you have done this

The standard Viper and Cobra III I would have thought should jump further than my did with the upgrades installed

Well, all I can say beyond that (as Alex also mentioned) is to make sure you have a class 4 rated frame shift drive, preferably D or higher.

The Cobra's jump range potential is significantly better than the Viper's. You should be getting 10+LY easily with it, if not significantly more.

I had bought a C1 FSD when I bought both the Viper & cobra, I'll try it again and see what happens as it's probably me that's making a mistake somewhere.
