Jumped out of supercruise, onto the station and blew up

Hey everyone

This is something that really put a huge damper on the fun I was having with this game. I was on a trade route and when jumping out of super cruise I came out right onto the station, like inside the structure. Then I blew up, lost my ship and about 100,000 credits. Yay!

Anyone else experience this bug?

Thanks for any help!

This happened to me before while exploring. My advice would be the moment you see your hull start going down, log off and log back in to reset you position in the system. Works every time

Came out really, really close to a station about half an hour ago. It was an Orbis type station and I barely had time to pull away from it. (Nearly crashed into one of the outer rings) Never had that happen before but gave me quite a scare.

Last week i exited supercruise about two meters in front of an Orbis. Before i always used to throttle up and hit boost the first i got out of SC, not anymore. But yeah, i think we drop to close to the stations.

hey redoctober, while approaching glance at the panel on the left showing the progress bar to the targeted destination, as long as you keep your speed under 1000km/s before reaching 1000M you can disengage quickly.

Note that Orbis, Ocellus stations have a huge end that sticks out and will rush up quickly even when safely disengaging, if you exit less than 100M there is a good chance you will end up right in front or in the station. Same goes for Orbis stations with a ringed habitat.

I've been eaten so many stations my ship remains are on all of the original Beta station walls, but keeping an eye on that left panel has saved me since.

Interesting, I didn't know that the time you disengaged your FSD actually mattered from where you will end up. Good to know...

You people should really learn to approach the station from the way facing the planet

jeez

If you drop out of SC as soon as you kit the 1000km and the "safe to exit SC" then you should be fine every time. Only if you get REALLY close you start to get into trouble. This all came about, because people complained like mad that the original immediate dropout of 20km was too far and WAY too far away so it was lessened, now you come out at 8km if you drop out at 1000km SC. Can't please everyone...

Been playing since beta2. Never had it happen. I always drop out as soon as it says "Safe to Disengage."

This feature is a result of players whining about the 45 second journey to the station from a whopping 20km out.

I actually think it's an awesome side effect of impatience. All those people who wanted it closer...well they got it. Now they've got a space station sandwich right in their grill, lmao.

Fortunately it will never happen to me. I always lock the parent object instead of the station itself which allows me to drop from supercruise anywhere I want rather than being dropped at the front door automagically. I typically drop about 50km out...gives me a chance to smoke before the docking maneuvers. :)

This happens when you approach the station from outside the orbit...
Try make the approximation from inside the station orbit, because most station have the mailbox pointing to the planet... This way you avoid this issue, and get an easier entrance procedure.

Ending up close or even inside the station happened long before the change from 20km to 10km safe disengage distance.

I try to press the button at 20km, zero throttle input. Always aproach from the planet side, it lines you up with the mailslot.

No, its just a bug.
(I do like the term automagically though)

Never had this happen to me or come any where near a station. I am normally about 8km out.
I disengage as soon as I can
Maybe you are just leaving it to late?!?

Well if it's a bug it's a bug I hope they never fix...people get what they deserve. They wanted it closer...but now what they want is for it to be closer but also figure out based on the geometry of the station and your approach angle where best to drop you safely, etc, etc, etc. How about this...when it says "Safe to disengage" you hit the button and it drops you on your landing pad. Any takers? The sad thing is...there will be some takers. Lol.

No matter, I have a work around.

I had it happen a few times in the last week where I drop out of SC almost on top of the station. It only ever happens at Orbis stations, never, so far anyway, with a Coriolis.

IIRC ithe is design intent. As has already been said, 20km was considered too far by some so FD reduced it to 8km. There is also a mechanic where the later you leave your dropout to closer to the station you get. Not usually a problem for Coriolis stations, but for Orbis stations, this can catch you out when you don't approch from planetside as you can end up in the ring or solar panels. I think you can still end up in the superstructure as well, in PB players came out of SC in the station, only to get blown up for trespassing! Learn the game, far too many people calling "bug" just because they got caught out be a game feature that makes game life a little bit risky, and more interesting.

Aye, with an 8km distance when you drop out, and some stations being 8km or more long, you can run into the back end of them - but only if you approach from the rear. Come in from above, below, the side, or planetside, and it won't happen. Just never drop out of SC with a line that goes you -> Station -> planet, as then you are directly behind the station in question and that could be Bad News.

That's Excellent advice FaolGlas, I knew if you approach from the sun you end up in front of the big orbis station, but not that the line of sight of your approach has an affect on your dropout position.
I have been caught out myself by going from an orbital to an orbis station in a single system then dropping out at the 8km back end of the orbis station, nearly getting a clout twice from a solar panel.
