Newcomer / Intro Jumping into the star

What happens when you jump into a star? It has happened to me so many times already, but I have always just passed through the star, never actually ended up trapped inside. I guess it must be VERY rare to end up inside, but if I do, what do I do?

You should be ok if you drop a couple of heat sinks, maybe? I've passed through a star once while coming out of witchspace. overloaded my fuel scoop.

You mean you actually ended up INSIDE of a star, not just passed through, your ship has stopped inside after the jump, and all it took was a couple of heatsinks?

You used to be able to stop in a star after a jump iirc, especially in binary or larger systems.

As it caused instadeath, it was removed.

The other one was some insane pilots logging out and then back in with either planets ot asteroids around, again leading to death as those assets had moved in the intervening time.

So, it's not a risk these days.

I passed through a star and ended up near the main star overheating so many times I lost count... But I think one day I can actually end up inside and I wonder what is the best approach to get out...
You sound like you're setting yourself a challenge there!
I'd guess that would only be possible with a contact binary, not sure if they are in-game, tbh.
I would imagine your ship would explode and you'd end up at the rebuy screen.

Back a few years ago before they fixed it I got the impression I had passed through one star in a close multi star system too end up facing one of the others, the heat isn’t the problem I remember it was more finding a course that didn’t lead me too close to one of the stars so I was dragged out into normal space which would lead to heat issues.

But haven’t seen that behaviour since the fix.

There was a time just after the fix where you could drop out of jump too far away from the stars so you would have a cruise to reach scooping range but again that has been long fixed.

Well, it definitely was not fixed entirely, as I keep passing through stars quite regularly and I'm always close to s h i ting my pants in the process... Like once a month this happens...

It used to be common, due to FDEV changing the emergence distance for close binaries it happens very rarely now, but if a star is between you and a main star yes you can still pass through, but I don't think you can up inside a star anymore.

I hope they fixed it in a way you describe, because passing though a star happens to me really more often than I would like... I do around 100-150 jumps a day and being on an expedition, I really do not want to end up instadead, begging FD support to give me my ship and data back, waiting a couple of days for their response...

I wasn’t killed by the issue back when it was common* and I don’t think I have heard of anyone who was, I have been hauled out into normal space by a single star due to my misjudgments more often than when these incidents occurred so I think you are more at risk from the usual perils of exploration.

*I was doing a trade CG back in the day, and pushing hard, my route out to the best source took me through a multi star system which had a close pair with at least one adjacent star so the crash through the star was happening multiple times per hour on most days of the week the CG lasted, sometimes the positions changed and it didn’t happen but that still left the ‘fun’ of trying to avoid two or three stars to align for the next jump at 100% throttle.
