June 3rd... Engineer's or Explore?

So I'm in a bit of a dilemma...

I've been playing this game since the early days of the preview program. Since then my entire game play has consist of bounty hunting and pvp with some trading on the side. I absolutely love pvp, it really adds the icing on the cake for me. I also love outfitting ships, and with Engineer's around the corner it's about to get even better

Now for exploration. I've always wanted to explore this beautiful game, and to see what's really out there. I've ultimately saved my time for exploring just for Horizons for obvious reasons. The thing is when I decide to jump off in the deep end I plan on staying out for a really long time.

This is where I run into my problem. I'm the hardcore pvp type so If I decide to explore right off the bat by the time I return I'm way behind. The hardcore pvp crowd will be way ahead on weapons, shieldso etc. Or do I stay behind, upgrade my Pvp ship until she's maxed then head out?

I know the decision is ultimately up to me, I understand that. I'm just curious if anyone is in the same boat and or what do you fellas think? Thanks.

A long exploration trip isn't the most efficient way to make money, but the flip side is that you get a whole WHACK of cash all at once. You ought to have the funds to refit a ship or two with the new stuff when you get back.

What I'm going to do is buy an Anaconda, store my Corvette with my other ships. Mod that conda for exploration and then head to the engineers to mod it even more.

And then finally head out. 50 LY per jump means I will get to where I want fast and I will be going ALL over the damn place for my montage. I've already gone over 300,000 LY total so I know exactly where I want to go.

You know why I'm doing that? Because what I do is more important then what other people do. You said it yourself, the decision is up to you. So if you want to go find places like this:

for the first time. Then do it. Everything will be waiting for you at home, don't let the feeling of others overtaking you in a game where the vast majority of people have Cobra's dictate your decisions!

Engineers charge materials not cr. He can buy enhanced drives or the new huge & large weapons, but not modify parts unless he collect's the right mat's on landable planet's(which exist out in the black).

I would say exploration, I think I'll do the same. You can still farm some materials on planets.

I think I'll do the same in-case Frontier has chosen to kill PvP piracy off with the latest update.

From what I've seen about the weapon mods piracy is going to be more viable than ever with those FDS mines and torpedos.

To OP I personally would make a start on my PVP ship then go off into the black that way you know your not starting from scratch when you come back. Also they are changing how we get the special effects after 2.1 is released so you could come back after that update and have an easier time getting the mod you want.

The first thing im going to do is finding me a nice planet, fairly close to its star. Land my ship, get in the Buggy, and find me a nice high spot to watch the sunset. With my Anaconda on the background.

Ow man, ill be overflooding the screenshot thread with screenshots and vids..

So, i guess, this will count as "exploration"

Yes but then I've heard about other things which those torps and mines won't acount for. :/

At best I think solo piracy is done for. If anything I need wing mates or else it probably won't be possible.

But I'll keep my whining threads to myself until Horizons and 2.1 drops.

Not totally - some materials can be obtained from the planet surface, you can also get these materials from mining and others are from SS's yet more can simply be bought from certain markets. They really have expanded materials for Engineers but you will be able to get materials from the planet surfaces for jumpoium and such.

If you paste the BBCode from imgur then image will embed in the forum - OT sorry.

^^^^This, so much this.

I don't have an Anaconda yet.....sniff.

I'd say explore. The Engineers will be there when you get back. [big grin] Shortly after Horizons drops, I'll be heading off too! Possibly to finally see Sag A.

That sounds like my plan. Very excited to land on a planet.

I'll get laughed at... however, you could 'attempt' to play CQC every once in awhile (if you ever get enough CMDRs for a game to fill the pew-pew PvP itch while out exploring.
