Hello all!

It's time for June's catch up! We will have a look back at the last month and talk about any news you may have missed.

June was a huge month for Planet Zoo! We had E3, multiple videos published and animal reveals.

During E3, we announced Planet Zoo's release date: 5 November, 2019, at the PC Gaming Show. You can watch our in-game reveal trailer, which we showed at this event:

We also opened Planet Zoo out for pre-orders. You can pre-order Planet Zoo for $44.99 (€44.99, £34.99) and Planet Zoo: Deluxe Edition for $54.99 (€54.99, £42.99). Both are available on the Steam store and the Frontier store.

The Deluxe Edition includes Planet Zoo game, plus bonus content:
  • Pre-launch Beta access
  • Three unique animals: Komodo Dragon, Pygmy Hippopotamus, Thomson's Gazelle
  • High-quality wallpapers
  • Original Soundtrack by JJ Ipsen
Players who pre-order the Deluxe Edition can join the pre-launch Beta later this year, and add the Deluxe-exclusive animals to their zoos at launch.

During E3 week, Senior Artist Liesa Bauwens and Community Manager Bo went on Twitch for a Planet Zoo demo. You can watch the segment here (Planet Zoo was shown at the 2hr35min mark!) We could see support from members of the community in the chat!

Liesa did another demo, this time on her own and on Mixer. You can watch this segment here (at the 2hr40min mark!) The feedback from the streams were superb and it's making us look forward to the Planet Zoo streams that will start later this year.

The E3 team worked hard alongside the team at home in the studio, to ensure a successful week for Planet Zoo!

Do you recognise any of the E3 team?
On June 14, we premiered the E3 Gameplay Demo on YouTube, with over one thousand people in the chat watching it live. It marked a special occasion, made even more special by the positive feedback we received. Having our community come together to watch a reveal with members of the Community Management team in the chat made for a great experience. Watch the E3 Gameplay Demo here:

Before E3, on 5 June, we published another Developer Journal on our Planet Zoo forums, with this one focusing on creativity and habitats. Senior Artist Liesa Bauwens and Designer Emma Rydstrom highlight the importance of letting your creativity and imagine run wild, while keeping your animals best interests in mind. You can read this developer journal here.

Soon after E3, on 20 June, we debuted our first 'The Making of Planet Zoo' video: 'An Authentic Experience.' In this video, members of our development team come together and share their experiences of making Planet Zoo! We take you behind the scenes to see what some of our artists, animation and audio team are up to, and how they come together to develop and publish a zoo management game.

Throughout June, we published new screenshots of our animals. Some were voted for by our community on our Zoopedia polls, which are polls we do every Wednesday to find out what animal the community would like to learn more about on Friday. If you'd like to take part in these polls, make sure to check our social channels on Wednesday's to find out what animals you can vote on!

At the start of the month, the Grizzly Bear was voted for. Did you know, the 'hump' visible on a grizzly bear's back is a large amount of muscle that bears use when digging dens or hunting prey?

The next voted for animal was the African Wild Dog! These creatures are observed to 'vote' by sneezing; the more dogs in a pack that sneeze concurrently, the more likely they are to go hunting. Dominant dogs are more likely to start a successful hunt vote.

135889

Our community voted the Springbok next. Springboks are so named because they will often jump to 3.5 metres into the air, especially during mating season. This jumping behaviour is known as 'pronking.'

135890

We posted about other animals this month too, such as the primates, who have a need to climb and you will be able to build custom, piece-by-piece trails for them to follow.

135891

African Elephants have thick, grey skin and a characteristic trunk they can use for vocalising, drinking and grasping foods.

135892

Cheetahs are famous for being the fastest land animal, as they can reach 60mph in under three seconds! They also have a large, muscular tail to help them balance.

135893

Animals can co-exist in the same enclosures in Planet Zoo. Check out this screenshot of Reticulated Giraffes and Springboks in the same habitat:

135894

Saltwater Crocodile are large predators, with broad snouts and bodies compared to other crocodiles, and are tan to green/grey in colour.

135895

We showed the Wildlife Tour, which you can track around your zoos and have your guests experience your animals from every angle!

With July only days away, we are looking forward to revealing more about Planet Zoo throughout the month! Make sure you follow us on our social channels, join the Zookeeper Zone for newsletters and check the forums often to stay up to date with all the latest news!

That's it for June's catch up! We will catch you next month!

But wouldn't that be just early bird access? If I hear beta access, I understand it's an early stage of the game so that we as players can give feedback that is taken in consideration pre-launch.

'Early bird access' sounds like a perfect name for Planet Zoo beta access. Honestly though, it's all just baseless speculation at this point. I'm just teasing :) As a jaded old man though, I would advise caution and tempered expectations, lest ye be disappointed.

Oof. i thought it was later in summer? this line means can be anywhere from now till December?

Well the game comes out November 5th ;) so I don’t think beta will be out after the games release xD but I see our point, was kinda hoping it would be mid to late July :( planet zoo devs like to torture us! Maybe we could at least get some more screen shots? whispers of different animals we haven’t seen yet 🤞🏻
