Jurassic World Evolution: Return to Jurassic Park and Update 1.12 - What we know so far

With the latest DLC to arrive in December 10th 2019, JWE will have a new main campaign that focuses on the reconstruction of the original Jurassic park. Alongside that campaign, a lot of new content will be introduced that ranges from new buildings, 2 new creatures, reworked dinosaurs, and a new update to go alongside the release of the DLC. Everyone is excited for the new DLC as it allows players to build and play in JWE with a strong JP theme, catering to the fans both new and old in the jurassic park/world franchise.

I have compiled a list of all that we know so far based on the teaser, pictures, and articles. Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be updating this thread accordingly so we could get a larger scope of what is to come. So please do let me know if I missed out of some content or made some mistakes. Without further ado: Welcome to Jurassic Park.

Availability:
• The new DLC will be arriving to Steam, Xbox, and PS4 on the 10ths of December, for £15.99/€19.99/$19.99 (prices may vary depending on platform and region, you will need to own the base game to play the new content).

• Likewise, update 1.12 will come alongside the new DLC for free, which leaves us with the status of update 1.11 in the air. As of writing this, the game is in update 1.10, and jumping to update 1.12 would skip update 1.11. Will it be released prior to update 1.12, or has the content been merged with later inclusions to bring us update 1.12?

The DLC Story:
• The DLC will take place directly after the events of the original jurassic park in 7 story based missions between Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna. So far, this would mean we will have the events of the lost world be reintroduced in this campaign, however it is unclear of JPIII will have a presence in this campaign mode just yet.

The Characters:
• Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) will reprise their roles in this new DLC. This will be the first time Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler have been in a JP media since 2001's JPIII, and the first time they are all together since the original movie.

• The other characters such as Ray Arnold, Robert Muldoon, and Dennis Nedry would most likely not reprise their roles as the events of the first movie killed off these characters. And if the campaign mode were to start after the events of the first movie, then these characters would most likely be heard through dialogue alone.

• John Hammond and Dr. Henry Wu are unknown at this point, they are of the two most notable characters in the movie as the founder of JP and the scientist behind the reintroduction of the dinosaurs respectively. So they would most likely have a role in this campaign as they are alive after the events of the first movie, however we need further information before we could determine their inclusion and roles in the new DLC.

• Lex and Tim Murphy, as the grandkids of the original jurassic park, this may be the first time we see children in the game. However, nothing has yet determined if they made it into the game or not. Most likely not as we have a large cast of characters in the game, and the player has to deal with management which lessens the encounter with the grandchildren. However, they may be brought up during conversation within the main campaign story.

The Maps:
As with the trend of the two prior DLC, we are most likely to have only 2 new maps in this campaign, one to be set in Isla Nublar and one to be set in Isla Sorna. Their scales have yet to be determined but would be comparable to the larger scales of maps we have been receiving in Claire’s Sanctuary. Likewise, new maps means new challenge mode skin rewards, so we would likely see some top tier skin variants for the classic dinosaur roster as rewards.

The New Creatures:
Return to Jurassic Park will introduce 2 new creatures that have their own unique paddocks, The Compsognathus and the Pteranodon.

These 2 dinosaurs would be treated differently from the rest of the dinosaurs that are in Jurassic World Evolution, it has been confirmed by Game Watcher that these 2 creatures will have their own unique paddocks. All dinosaurs so far have been made with the hammond creation lab and could be placeable in virtually any environment in the map, with full customization to their enclosure security, food, terrain, population, and space. These two will then have a more static building that would house these creatures and we are still unsure of the level of customization these paddocks would allow for. Likewise, new mechanics could be introduced to recapture these creatures as we have one as an Aerial creature not bounded by the ground and obstacles, and the other is too small to be captured by the traditional dart method. Their inclusions would be an experimental testing ground to Frontier that could allow for later inclusions such as dimorphodon and microceratus. Further information is needed to know how these mechanics would function.

Monday the 18th of November: Community manager Steggs has confirmed that the Compsognathus are a free roaming dinosaur!

Therefore, the Pteranodon is the only creature tied to a static exhibit. Further information is needed in how escape measures are taken care of and how the creatures are to interact with the other dinosaurs, guests, and environment.

The Old Dinosaurs:
Return to Jurassic Park will reintroduce a large selection of base game dinosaurs with new skins and updated models that are more appropriate to the original trilogy. This may also introduce sexual dimorphism to some old star creatures based on their later film adaptations. Their skins may not be varied on coloration as they general dinosaur in the game, but on their Island location and movie debut.

These are the dinosaurs that have been confirmed to have a new look to go alongside the new DLC:

• Brachiosaurus: The first dinosaur revealed in the trailer and looks exactly as her debut in Jurassic Park. Fans have spotted striped head brachiosaurus with red coloring on their heads, so JPIII skins are also represented in this game.

• Parasaurolophus: Their dusty lost world skin has been seen in the teaser and promotional pictures. A slight variation may have been spotted, so they may have variations based on their original JP and JPIII variants as well.

• Tyrannosaurus: The tyrannosaurus in the trailer has appeared to have been made bulkier to her JWE counterpart. Likewise, her JP look and TLWJP possible buck skin has been seen in the steam pictures, it is unsure if a JPIII variant would be included as well.

• Triceratops: The triceratops has a more bulkier look and skin that is similar to her original movie debut. It is unsure if a TLWJP or JPIII variants could be introduced as TLW triceratops was in a dark location and JPIII has a small birds eye view.

• Stegosaurus: Stegosaurus is back and is sporting her TLWJP green look.

• Dilophosaurus: They have been seen in the trailer, however they do not look as different from their JWE counterpart as their JWE is heavily based on the original movie.

• Velociraptors: The raptor has been given her iconic first skin in JP, likewise a stripped raptor and a raptor based on The Big One could be seen in the steam page of this DLC. Though not revealed, TLWJP and JPIII variants would most likely be in the game thanks to the brachiosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex having skins from the original sequels. It has yet to have been confirmed if the male variants of the raptors would make it into the game.

And below are a list of dinosaurs that have made an appearance in the original movie trilogy but have not been confirmed or shown to be given the same treatment, the list only includes dinosaurs from the base game and fallen kingdom patch:

• Ankylosaurus
• Ceratosaurus
• Gallimimus
• Corythosaurus
• Pachycephalosaurus
• Spinosaurus
• Metriacanthosaurus (Genome name)
• Mamenchisaurus
• Baryonyx (Original Map)

Building Objects:
There are new buildings shown in the trailer and steam pictures that showcase as well as some new fencing and trees to be part of the new dlc/update. Here is the list of confirmed objects so far:

• Toilets: With update 1.12, toilets will be introduced to JWE and introduce alongside it a possible guest need to use restroom, further adding to guest management.

• Compsognathus Paddock: It is unknown how this will function in terms of function and customization, this will most likely add to the dinosaur count and may or may not invoke guest needs like fun. Would present a new way to manage the smallest creatures in the game.

• Pteranodon Paddock: Similar to the Compsognathus paddock, this and the previous paddock would only require a set number of space for construction. Their gameplay function and customization has yet to be revealed.

• Rail based tours: The teaser starts with JP1993 Jeeps in a rail, that railing system would be similar to the original park tours where the cars are in a dedicated rail and can not venture away from the path. A ford explorer variant has been discovered that utilize the same railing system.

• Jurassic Park gate: The new gates shown in the film could either be a set alone object that could be applied to all tours, or unique to the Rail based tour.

• Visitor Center: The visitor center has been seen in the trailer, their function has yet to be revealed.

• Jurassic World Welcome Helipad: This helipad has been seen in the steam page, it is unknown if this is a placeable building or a preset building.

• The Raptor Hatchery: The raptor hatchery is one of 2 hatcheries seen in the steam page. What function it has to the other creation lab has yet to be revealed. It could very well be a more compact hatchery for smaller dinosaurs that do not require the large hatchery. Or it could provide a new gameplay function with it being raptor exclusive, it has yet to be revealed.

• The Jurassic Park style Hammond Creation Lab: This building is very similar to the Hammond Creation Lab but with the Jurassic Park theme to it.

• Light and heavy fencing: The light and heavy fencing have been noted in the JP DLC in the stegosaurus picture. The heavier looking fence has a notable spikey top that is similar in look to the old fence in JPIII.

• Fencing also have 2 variants of top protection often used to prevent creatures to climb over the fence, further information in needed if dinosaurs like raptors have a new escape mechanic.

Speculation: As the compsognathus are confirmed to be free roaming, this in turn clarifies that the chain link bottom is made for the compsognathus in mind. The Jurassic World themed fencing may have an updated look to contain the chain link fence as well.

• New scenery Trees: The same stegosaurus picture has large brown vertical vegetation in the background similar to the redwood tree. This could very well be a nod to the forest look in TLWJP, and could be seen as a scenery object than a new tree brush.

• The substations are notably different from the current JWE variant, fans have noted their shadow casts that of a traditional transmission tower than a pole, this may mean we have a power station that is similar in theme as well.

Possible new restaurants, shops, and attractions could be introduced to this DLC.

New Game Mechanics:
So far in terms of new gameplay, bathrooms will be made into a new guest need for deeper park management.

Likewise, ranger vehicles will have more interactions to the dinosaurs. This may lead to destructible vehicles as we see a stegosaurus tail whip a ranger vehicle in the steam page. Further data will be added once more is revealed.

New JP Themed UI and Inventory:
The game will have a new UI that will be usable in challenge mode and sandbox mode alongside the DLC campaign. This UI may have an orange retro look to emulate the old computers in the original JP.

So far this is all that I gather on the upcoming DLC, let me know if I missed out on anything or I placed something wrong. I will continue to update this thread as more gets revealed in regards to the new DLC. December 10th is not that far away! 🦕🦖

I didn't notice the JW3 Brachiosaurus or the Ford Explorer. This makes me more excited!

Weirdly enough, out of all of the dinosaur skins, I'm most excited for the JP3 Ankylosaurus (assuming it's getting the same treatment).

People keep calling it a raptor hatchery... Im gonna go out on a limb and say it's what it actually is. Which is a Security Pen. It was a security pen because the raptors could jump so high and would attack the fences when the feeders came so they needed to use the crane to feed them.

This may be being too hopeful with the amazing amount we are already getting.... But im thinking they finally added in raptors climbing out of fences and opening doors in some fashion. So if you house a raptor in a normal fence escapes will be high until we unlock some type of add on. So until then we'll have to repair the security pen and house the raptors back in there. Just my guess. Hope im right.

Perhaps we'll get crane operated cow or goat feeders to attach to normal fences so raptors dont kill rangers or escape when they attempt to feed them?

The JPIII Brachiosaurus skin is my most mixed feeling skin. The pattern looks great and all but when the camera zoomed in on that face in JPIII then its like "eww". I hope they make the model look a tad polished than what the movie executed. But I will love it all the same :D

The ankylosaurus is my top remake skin. I do enjoy the new Jurassic World variant but I find myself making the rainforest skin ankylosaurus the most to be similar to the JPIII look. If that bad boi gets in the game I will be exploding with happiness!

Currently, that building is my favorite mystery of the new DLC. I think we all call it a hatchery due to its use in JPOG. I would love to know what it does, because if it is a security pen similar to the original movie, how do we transport the raptors to the building? And if it does have a cow crane that we can not see, will cows be finally introduced to the game as a new feeder option?

Also I agree with the fencing, there may be more of a chance for raptors to climb out as the new fencing is climbable and the high end fence we see with the stegosaurus has a barbed top that could hinder climbing altogether. They did say there will be more to show, so we have to wait and see what the weekly feature holds :D

Something tells me the raptor pen in the DLC may just be a map cosmetic, like it really does for one or two reasons. But, you may never know.

Speaking of raptors, I'm almost 100% positive the female raptor from the third film will be a "legacy skin" option, as they currently call them, because if the brachiosaurus has two "legacy skins", one from the first movie and the other from the third movie, there's no reason not to think the velociraptor will have two as well. But my biggest question here is "will the velociraptor truly have any of it's 'male' variation designs, which are the orange tiger striped ones from the second film and the purplish ones with the head 'quills' from the third?" The current dinosaurs in-game, excluding the indoraptor, are meant to be all female, as they are even all referred to with female pronouns by the tour voices in-game. If there will be male designs, how can they be implemented in-game to make them feel more cohesive and not just thrown in there just because they look cool?

One of the things of this DLC I'm really curious about is how did they implement the idea of having you choose "legacy skins" for some of your dinosaurs? The only current way you can customize dinosaur looks is through the concept of Transgenesis, which is where you take a gene out of one animal's genome and stick it into another's genome. I really don't see how that kind of concept would make a lot of sense for the idea of "legacy skin" options to choose from, which is why I really want to see how they are able to do this.

Since we have seen the buck Trex skin in the game, I think it will be possible to have male raptors as well. So far, I think the raptors we are keen to see are:

• JP original raptors
• TLWJP male tiger striped raptors
• TLWJP female tiger striped raptors
• JPIII male raptors with the quills
• JPIII Female raptors

I believe that this DLC will have all 5 variants of these raptors, because they are including variants of dinosaurs like parasaurolophus in the marketing of this DLC despite their very small exposure in the movie themselves. I am also curious how we choose the legacy skins or not, and at first I thought it was from the old retro looking incubation lab, but it will be odd to exclude them to a single building. I think we could have an "Archived" genome option, where in the incubation lab, we could refer to old data of these dinosaurs and choose the sorna or nublar variant. Which does ask the question if they are unlocked from the start or we need to research them as well in the research lab during challenge mode. So it could require 100% genome of a T-rex, then we research old archives in the research tab to get the old legacy look based on older data.

I love the idea but I am also hesitant about it. Before the game came out, we had ingame footage of a triceratops being chased by raptors and was also labeled as in-game footage, and that turned out to be canned animation. So this could mean they attempted it to recreate the old look, OR that we could finally feed these dinosaurs the trees that we have. We need to wait and see for further information, so it is in limbo until proven true or false by the devs or when the game comes out.

I hope we can use some of the JP DLC game assets, Dinosaurs and skins with the JW part of the game. It would be interesting if you could mix and match the two. Like a JW Rex fighting a JPTLW buck Rex. A field with JW Stegos and TLW Stegos. Also having a Pteranodon Aviary would make anyone's JW build more authentic. Honestly though, after this DLC is released and I get everything unlocked I doubt I will ever play the JW part of this game again. I am not a big fan of the JW movies. The game is good but I don't care for the look of the JW stuff in the game. Some stuff is ok but I don't care for the Innovation Center. The Hammond creation labs just remind me that John Hammond is dead and so is JP, replaced with JW.

I heard Frontier will be releasing their first Feature Focus article next week, I hope it's Monday. We are getting a lot of stuff in this DLC I thought we would never get. So I would say anything is possible, within reason of course. I am sure we will get even more in the sequel. Hopefully some of these great ideas and assets carry over to the sequel.

On the JP Raptor pen, I think it will be a cosmetic item. While it's a nice nod to the original movie, if it is just a cosmetic I would see it as a waste of space. But maybe it can be used to contain raptors in the game or some other use. I never thought we would get an aviary with flying reptiles and here we are getting just that in this DLC.

I expect the Compys and the Pteranodons will be looped animations in their enclosures. I hope not, but I have a feeling that's what we will get. Hopefully there multiple animations for them to loop through. Basically they will be like fish bowls. There is only so much these animals can do in an enclosure anyway so people should keep that in mind. All the Pteranodons can do is fly around and land on stuff. All the Compys can do is hop around and chirp. I really do hope the compys will not be a fish bowl. I would like to see them running around freely outside of an animation loop. But if not then that's just how it is. I am sure Frontier will do their best.

I hope the UI is not orange. at least not completely cause that would be terrible on the eyes. I imagine the UI will be based on old computers from the time. That means grey or some variation of it, possibly blue, black and maybe some green. But I guess we will have to wait and see.

But the reveal of this DLC has been absolutely amazing. Frontier is really putting in alot of effort ad work here. Redesigned dinosaurs, movie skins, new buildings, the visitor center, a new UI, Ford tour vehicles or whatever they will call them, new game assets in general. This DLC will be like getting a whole new game almost. People should think about that before the complain about the DLC or the price. We are getting a lot of stuff for what we are paying. So if you bought the deluxe version of the game for $60 on release like I did you are paying a third of that to get what is nearly a whole new game with new assets. Even if you paid $45 for the Standard version of the game that still a little less than half for this amount of new content.

I think this DLC might be the last big DLC we will see. If I am correct than it sounds like it will be a perfect DLC for this trend to end on. I don't think they stop making content just yet. But I don't expect to see anything like this again in the future.

I think you might be right on that. Or at least that this was the plan in the first place. It seems logical that Universal would want all the Jurassic World DLCs out first since that is their current version of the franchise and after that is done give the fans some nostalgia of the older franchise.
But then plans might change. Since the game seems to have been a big success for them, this might mean there will be more DLC than initially planned. But then again, there is the unconfirmed sequel that they might want to move the focus to. So who knows.

I hope this isnt the end.... This dlc and update is going to massively improve the game. I hope they keep improving upon things. If this dlc is going to be as good as it looks they may have finally over taken jpog. If they were to keep adding things over the next couple years.... Wow.

Prior to the game's launch in 2018; Frontier has a plan to continue supporting the game for 3 years after launch, it could extend or it could shrink, but 3 years is the general idea. We are now 1.5 years in, half of the proposed support. So we could expect support until the launch of JW3 in summer 2021. We could either get a swan song DLC and patch then, or support may continue to cash in on the hype of JW3. Ultimately, I and a lot of players hope and believe that this DLC won't be the last and support continues. The game has turned out amazing, and I can not wait to see how Frontier could take the game further :)

I didn't say they would stop producing content for the game completely. I said we might not see anymore big DLC's like this in the future. The Secrets of Dr. Wu DLC and the Claire's sanctuary DLC are small compared to this. We might see a few more DLC's like that. I am sure they will still release Dinosaur packs. Maybe even some new buildings and other assets. But I don't think we will be seeing many of these DLC's where they put in this amount of effort.

I hope so as well, it would make the game a lot more customisable and let players be able to build a dinosaur theme park however they want to by being able to combine the two designs. For example, I would love to be able to use the 1993 version of the Hammond Creation Lab and electric fence for the Jurassic World era, they look as though they would be something you could see in JW.

the one thing that I'm mostly excited for an update 1.12 is the fact that redwood trees will be added to Scenery items something I've wanted for a very very long time my mamenchisaurus heard will graze from the Treetops just as seen from the trailer for also it is believed that the update will include grazing sauropods, which is absolutely awesome.

If we're lucky you might even get some ferns to go with it.
