Horizons Just bought Horizons.....bad idea.

As the title says, bought horizons as I am forced to if I want to compete in PvP BUT this has had some unforeseen consequences....

I was aware of the "interdiction " issue in ED with the magic drives these guys have that allow them to pull off some amazing feats of space navigation, but was NOT prepared for the added bonus of the "insta-interdiction". Now, the NPC's no longer have to pursue us, they just appear and bam! Now I am all for making the game exciting but giving NPC's an woefully unfair advantage just smacks of lazy     programming. Now, the insta thing was NEVER an issue before I bought horizons, so what gives?

Sorry, and hopefully someone can confirm this, but I was under the impression that you could still PvP across different Seasons of Elite in space.

Obviously if you don't have Horizons you wouldn't be able to do any form of PvP on or above a planet surface.

Like I said at the start I might have this completely wrong, but something tells me I'm not.

Think he means you're de facto required to have Horizons in order to be competitive in PVP. Someone flying an unengineered ship wont be able to compete with people running full G5 everything.

You're a little late to the party, insta-dictions have been a thing for a while (introduced in 2.0 iirc). They are better than they were though.

or fight high rank npc's. jk, still salty after the megerd modual and weapons ai bug but yh, you're at a disadvantige in pvp if you don't have engineer upgrades

Interesting. I'm on Mac (and hence can't play horizons), and I've not been experiencing instant interdictions either. Sometimes the interdiction will glitch out and I'll fail, but most of the time interdictions are tough but escapable. Maybe this really is a 2.x+ issue that doesn't affect 1.x?

Wait till you start looking for materials/commodities for engineer upgrades, then you will really start to hate it.

Oh come now ... they changed it shortly after 2.1 so that materials are MUCH easier to find ... you get three of them for every one you find (other than mission rewards). The only thing that's still a miserable pain to get are the firmwares.

But yes, you absolutely need engineers to be competitive in PVP. That being said, engi mods are very useful even to non-PVPers by boosting their thruster speed and FSD range. I now simply can't go back to the base FSD ranges, ever.

Exactly this, a player who does NOT buy into Horizons is at a very clear (and unfair, almost Pay2win) disadvantage against anyone who has bought into the expansion. I'm an ols school PvPer and am not adverse to a knock down blood and snot fight BUT offering myself up as some form of perverse sacrifice to expansion buyers is not my idea of fun. So, had to buy it, no other way around it, nice one FD.

You get same NPCs with or without Horizons...

Although I have had run ins with the all too persistent NPC's I have NEVER had the insta interdiction until I bought horizons, been playing a fair while now too. I think you are mistaken, no other reason for the sudden change in tactics/abilities.

So, you bought Horizons to restore your perceived disadvantage at PVP, but find that NPC craft are interdicting you more frequently, and therefore it was a bad idea to purchase it?

Your post is so negative, it is difficult to see how anyone can help you, unless it's just an instant rant. How about giving it a go first, and improving your weapons, exploring the other features of Horizons, then giving us some feedback on why you think Horizons is a bad idea (if you still hold that viewpoint later)?

yeah dont sweat it, just need to learn how to run, submit straight away then pips to shields and engines and boost, jump

These interdictions you speak of have nothing to do with horizons fyi. Horizons adds planetary landings and engineers and that's it for now.

Someone into combat complaining about the interdictions. It's a new one!

As if by magic... A ship appears... As if by magic a ship explodes; magic in this case being a G5 Corrosive shelled Multicannon. You can now get yourself one :D
Look at it as a surprise credit delivery service. Always carry 1t of Gold in Anarchy systems, keeps you on your toes, and your credit manager happy.

As others have said, fairly certain interdictions increased across the board. However, there is a way to test it. See, horizons is 64-bit. In your launcher, you will see a 32 bit option. This is the original Elite: Dangerous. You'll have to have both versions installed, but you can mode switch if Horizons added to much trouble. I think you can still collect materials and everything, missions should all be the same with the exception that there will be none to planet surfaces.

oh look another forum warrior not really getting it, thats a new one........ Let me explain, slowly.

I have no issue with interdiction's done correctly, what I am puzzled by is the ability of NPCs to immediately appear behind me and instantly interdict me......
