Just bought the game

Hello,
looking to get some help if possible with turning on the game for the first time.

I bought the game via Humblebundle website which provided me with a steam key.

added the key to my steam library and installed the game.

Logged into my Frontier account and linked my steam account.

Now the launch shows "play demo"

is there anything i can do to fix this as im dying to jump into this game

Greetings - brace yourself, its fun but not gentle!

Are you logged in to your Steam account? You didn't used to have to be logged into Steam to run ED from the launcher, but for copies acquired after April 2019, I belive you do.

If its not that, it'll need someone more knowledgeable than I, possibly a support ticket to FDev.

Good luck CMDR!

On a side note, when i launch the game from its folder (with steam off) it requires me to log into my frontier account afterwards telling me to purchase/redeem elite dangerous to continue

In that case are you logged in to both your Steam account and Frontier account when you try to launch the game?

Also, there's a section on your Frontier account for 'Steam Entitlements' check that to make sure ED is showing up there - might be as simple as having to wait until it does.

If another CMDR with experience of running ED through Steam since April could stop by and confirm/shed light, that be grand.

Sadly, I am unable to answer that. Its just a best guess on my part - as is the following - I'd expect that if it is supposed to show up there it'd be an automated system and should appear fairly quickly, within minutes, if all is opperating as intended.

Alas, I do not know for certain.

Any other CMDR's out there with recent Steam account experience able to help?

I did just manage to navigate through the Frontier Support sytem to here, though:

There's a link in there for submitting a ticket if the info there isn't helpful.

Edit: Looks like the first link in that blurb is asking you to give the Steam keys you got to your Frontier account. Try that, even if you already did it when linking accounts.

The link @SpaceGoblin gave you won't work for you. Since April all Steam purchases of E D have no CD-Key. That is also why you cannot play using the direct EDLaunch.exe file.

So there are two things:

and:

That should see you right, just make sure you follow the instructions for the "after 25th April 2019 " version in step 2 of the first link.

Have run into the exact same issue you have, v1nnieb. As near as I can understand from reading posts on steam, the launcher is unable to verify the installed files. In the "old days" you would just plug in the key on your account page, only we don't get keys anymore. Have submitted a ticket in the meantime, let you know what happens...

Have you tried the actions I linked in post #11 above? " https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/just-bought-the-game.532505/post-8187480 "

I have been playing this game with multiple accounts for over 4.5 years and bought a "new-style" Steam account in one of their sale events recently - it took me an absolute age to go through the permutations to get the game validated in this version. This "no-CD Key" version on Steam is an absolute nightmare, just one step out of sequence and you end up in the validation loop or worse.
