Just cleared my save

I know you are trolling like you usually do, but i ll comment on this, since you quoted me.
Its not an option for me, because its a matter of principle. You wouldn't understand though..

Ah, so when you say its not an option what you really mean is that is in fact an option.

If you'd said "I'm choosing not to do the beta" I'd have agreed with you since having done them before I can't be bothered either. By hiding your choice behind overly dramatic flouncing mixed with dark hints and butthurt you just muddied up your own message.

Still it made me laugh, so well done.

That's how i play. I try to not grind and avoid aiming to one thing every time. I try to play and enjoy.. but its hard to enjoy when every step hits you with grind walls and various silly time sinks.

You are doing it wrong. Stop grinding.

"So much"?

When I started my alt-account, I took a bunch of data-delivery missions that paid around Cr200k each and had Cr1m within 15 minutes.
I'd already decided on a Cobra build that was going to cost, IIRC, around Cr10m and it took me about 3 or 4 hours to achieve that... and then I went mning.

I don't really buy into the whole "starting again isn't a big deal" thing.
Sure, you start off feeling like it isn't a big deal, but then you want to do some remote-engineering and realise you haven't even unlocked the relevant engineer - let alone pinned any blueprints - so you can't do it, or you hope to fit Guardian modules but realise you haven't unlocked them, or you want to visit SD and realise you can't until you're Elite at something, or you want to buy an iCourier but realise you need the rank, or you want to swap a module but you realise you havent got any stored modules.

Thing is, if you started again because you WANT to do all this stuff again, that's fine. You're going to have a great time.

If, OTOH, you've started again because you wanted to recapture that original feeling of awe, you're probably not going to get it and there's a heap of grind ahead of you before you can get back to where you were before.
When I launched for my 'evaluation' it looked pretty darned impressive. And there's no grind ahead of me because I refuse to grind. I'm in it for the journey, not the destination.
I was just as surprised when I found out consoles versions of the game get unlimited Cmdr accounts free.
True but you have to create a new gamertag/PS4 Profile. I would think that would cost money but it doesn't. Well, I'm not going to go out and purchase a PS4 or xbone just to have multiple commanders when I have a perfectly good PC to play on with better graphics quality.

This.

The credits are irrelevant, you can get those easy, but the unlocks?

Nah, just buy a bunch of ships that cost loads, park them, then pretend you only have 1000 cress and a sidewinder.

Same effect.
Except then you still have that backup of reserve wealth. My last flight I didn't have enough for my re-buy and I actually got interdicted. It was a heart pounding minute or so until I dispatched him. But it was fun as heck. They say don't fly without your rebuy? That might be the sensible thing to do but hauling cargo in space knowing you can be destroyed (even if you're carrying sour cream and pickles) isn't very sensible either. There are easier ways to make a living and a good living at that. The risk adds to the fun of it.

I'd rather pay 14 bucks for another license than throw away years of history with a character.

As for the 'don't grind' people... You seem to think the game has a purpose other than acquiring ships and upgrading them.

Maybe back in year 1 when we all thought the game was going to have an interactive narrative and background sim that responded to the players... Nothing you do that doesn't result in New ships and upgrades makes any point in the game. So no, the 'don't grind' argument is . All there is, is grind.. Divided by moments when new releases are made.

With five years playing this game with three accounts I'm not going to reset my main PC account, my explorer PC account or my PS4 account which I have amassed about 30 billion credits with all three and many engineered ships.

But maybe your game play didn't progress as you would like so starting over with a reset is not a big deal. Welcome to the Forum where many players like me will be there for you...unless of course you cannot get past your player limitation rules you added playing ED. Many players do that and are frustrated.

There are wonderful players here wanting to help other players. One just has to get past all the "salt" replies on a thread post. It is common with every gaming forum. My advice is to purchase another account on sale which on Steam at the moment is pretty cheap at half price. This game has a high learning curve but once figured out it is pretty darn easy. Thus many posts on the Frontier Forum asking for something more challenging.

Regards

For me, the point is flying in space. If acquiring ships is your thing, then cool. Do what you find to be fun. As for upgrading, yeah, to a point. Once you have it fully upgraded, then you can worry about resources for engineering. But don't think engineering is the end all, be all of Elite. It isn't. I've defeated heavily engineered ships with an non-engineered one. Granted they were NPC's. But in small ships, for other commanders (human players), I'm a lovely light waiting to happen anyway no matter how much my ship is upgraded/engineered. But then I'm not in it for PvP. I just like flying through space seeing sights no one living (who doesn't play Elite Dangerous) will ever see.

But hey, grind if you want to. I don't and won't. I'm in it for the journey, not the destination. That's the beauty of it. You determine your own win/lose conditions.

Just a thought. Do you really think someone who has 30 billion credits/dollars/whatever the main unit of currency is, is going to continue to risk their life in the blackness of space? Not bloody likely. They will mostly either do charitable activities or become someone who just wants to enjoy life going to parties, fine dining etc.

Wow what condescending biowaste!

I think the pre-mining early game was/is one of the best experiences the galaxy has to offer. But I couldn't bring myself to retire my first CMDR. I didn't think his story was over.

Also, having an alt means you can always pursue both exploration and bubble projects at the same time. But best wishes to your retiree and to the new one, too :).

It's been getting a bit dull. I had my endgame ships and enough cash to give me a net worth of almost half a billion. So I decided to clear my save and start in one of the Pilots Federation system. Wow!! That was great. They actually had an evaluation (tutorial) before you were issued a license. Voice acted, too. I pretty much breezed through that but not too fast. I wanted to enjoy it, which I did.
I admire your courage.

As for how I made so much so quickly, I'll give you a hint. My Cobra MkIII is named Marie Curie. And that's all I'll say.
Because it glows in the dark ? 🤭

Hmmm. Just looked up Marie Curie. Not what I thought she was. While I knew she was a scientist, I didn't realize she worked with studying Radium and other radioactives. I thought she was in another discipline altogether. Well my new T-6 is named Rebecca Crumpler. And she was what I thought she was. Sorry about the confusion.

I've cleared my save 4 times and did every grind (except combat) each time. I thought it was fun starting over to try to refresh the game. Now I actually regret losing all that progress and all those first discoveries from exploration. I looked at my EDSM data and thought that I should be in the top 100 for discovered systems, if I only didn't reset. My travel map looks pathetic; the whole galaxy should be covered by my tracks. I'll never reset again. This is my biggest regret in the game.
