Just flew a Lakon 6 for the first time in DK2

.....and it was equally as amazing as my first time in ED with DK2. I'm shocked frankly that the "open" cockpit mad that much of a difference but, it did.

I can honestly say my childhood dreams have been fulfilled, Ha ha! I made it! I lived long enough to fly among the stars in VR! Anyone over (some under) 40 will know what I mean.

Yeah, when I was in grade school they told us that by the year 2000 we would all be driving hover cars and using jet packs to get around, they missed that a little bit, I am still waiting for my jetpack, but I have driven a moller hovercar. (the skycar)

yes, I had the same feeling when first tried type 6 - then tried walking around cockpit and my mind was blown :) Now I prefer taking off stations standing up, feels like at the helm of 50 feet boat - love it :)

I wish they would have a proper shipyard that you could walk around the ships and sit in the cockpit to really tease us!

I especially love the open window below your feet. Making a landing reminds me of using a littlebird heli in armaIII. This of course triggers the M.A.S.H. theme to begin playing in my head upon landing.

I think that is one of the strengths of this game. The genuine different experiences each ship gives. The lakons with the open canopy gives you such vision and the anaconda makes you feel you are the skipper of a massive oil tanker / cargo sea vessel.

Not had the pleasure of the asp or any of the other new ships yet but I can't wait :)

Maybe in the future we will even be able to read text or see distant ships ! Sadly at 44 I may not live to see that day :(

Checks your settings mate, (or your eyesight) Text is fine here.

@Mad Mike - Only issue with the ASP is the floor is partially covered, I actually preferred my Type 6 for sightseeing

Whilst Distant ships are an issue, I have no problems reading any text in elite actually in my ship, and even text in the galmap IS readable - albeit not ideal.

This is on my low end PC - lower than the minimum recommended spec for VR. with a higher end system I could supersample which by (admittedly 3rd hand info) most opinions, does make a difference.

Have you actually tried one yet or are you just peddling 3rd hand opinions?

regardless...... Rift DK2 is not a commercial product and is very much a WIP. unless you are suggesting CV1 will still not be any better, or unless you are not planning on being alive in 12-18months (estimate) then your wish will come true.

Dunno where you got 18 months from, they said that back in kickstarter over 2 years ago, they haven't actually given a release date.
I was reading 2017 a few days ago, then 2016 a few days before that. As far as I am aware they have not shared what screen is in the new crescent bay, just said it looks better
"It's the combination of the resolution with the optics, with the mechanical engineering and industrial design of this thing, that allow for it to look like it's a higher resolution, even though it may or may not be," Oculus Vice President of Product Nate Mitchell told TechRadar" You would think with 2 billion from Facebook they could have made something better by now...

I also dislike their evasive handling of questions, it makes me very suspicious of this company.

Have you actually tried the OR when it is correctly setup for your eyesight? I don't mean a quick go on someone else's. When I purchased my rift a few weeks back I tried the rift he was using, yep txt was blurry, didn't look good but you still had the wow factor. After a day of tweaking, the rift works and feels awesome on my machine, all settings maxed, SMAA switched on but blur off and bloom low.

I tell you what makes me suspicious, guy's like you that make claims about a product when it clearly seems like you don't own it. Especially strange when it's on a forum full of people that do use the product for hours on end.

Anyway back to the question, do you own your own DK2, or do you own one, but happen to be as blind as a bat in both eyes?

Cheers

I wouldnt think that at all.... I think considering what a game changer it is that development is coming along nicely. DK2 is a huge leap on DK1 and by all accounts Crescent Bay is as big a jump again, and probably close to the basic final hardware for CV1 - though lets hope for some improved ergonomics!.

and if you are getting your info from kdramasters then really.... dont! you would be just as well getting any facts from the Sunday Sport "news"paper!.

Last I read which I think was a quote from Palmer L himself was that it would be out by the end of 2015.

The quote you put in about resolution was in response to people asking if it was higher res than the 1440P note 4 based Gear VR. Sure they are keeping quiet about the specs of the screen, that is their perogative, but PAlmer Lucky himself said the CV1 WILL be higher res than the DK2....

PS you conveniently dodged my question... have you actually tried it yet? (mind you its irrelavent, imo you are so entrenched in your opinion I do not believe you would admit to being impressed by it even if it was 4K, weightless and with a 180 degree FOV :( )

No I did answer your question, the post was deleted because it quoted the other post in which the user urged other to flag me for no reason, which obviously I flagged..

Yes I have tried it, my friend eventually got one, it still needs much work. Let's see if they bring it by the end of 2015, I really hope they do. As far as I can tell they probably could have made a CV1 2 years ago, it was just the price of components not the technology gap, mainly the screen tech they were waiting to come down in price I don't think they want to use a screen specifically made for the job because of price...so it's easier to use a mass produced phone screen from Samsung, I see that as being the main hurdle for them.

I actually agree with most of that.

given their aim is to come in at under £300 it makes sense to off the shelf it if they can. the resolution is not the issue for this, it is the refresh rate.

the note 3 screen in the dK2 is overclocked to get it running at 75hz. I think it has already been said that the note 4 screen is out for CV1 because it wont get to the required 90hz.

time will tell, but until then personally I am having a lot of fun with what I have, warts and all :)
