There is a lot of fanboy stuff about these and similar in the hardware sub-forum.

Good place to read about them from the coal-face so to speak.
P.S. I wouldn't be averse to betting that the CHPro stuff (which I use) outlasts most others (touch wood).

Me either. It's the difference between an industrial producer making a great product and all these gaming firms getting on the small volume, premium price bandwagon.
That doesnt seem like enough of an upgrade from my x56.
In my opinion the X-56 is the ideal balance between features and price on the market today. If they'd sell the throttle by itself I'd throw down the asking price next payday, without another thought. My old X-55 won't last forever!
I am not belittling your x56 but honestly x56 and Virpil and not remotely on the same level.
Much of it comes down to build quality, even the Warthog has a plastic gimbal inside (this may have changed I haven't checked) but metal on the outside which is rubbish imo. I’ve seen many videos regarding stiction with the Warthog base and watched people painstakingly spend four hours fixing it.
Thats not to say you wouldn't spend hours tuning, configuring or trying to maintain your Virpil gear but at least you are off to the best start with the internal components for the base and gimbals.
You're right, there's a massive difference in quality, but it's worth pointing out that you
can sort out the issues with Warthog and X-56 sticks, it just takes a little effort, some basic maintenance and a little lubrication.
i bet the build quality is allot better, but it would be a downgrade for the amount of buttons and stuff.
personally having more buttons is more important than it being build of metal.
Actually, the VKB Gunfighter has
way more options than either the Warthog or the X-56 and the VirPil T-50 isn't far behind...
I have the full CH set and am more than happy with it. Doesn't look like much, but does the job perfectly and will probably last me a lifetime. While Virpil is absolute Premium, and I'd love to have it along with some MFG Crosswind pedals, that would also set me back rougly 1000 €. The CH set was quite a bit cheaper than that.
And that's the crux of the matter. The CH setup is functionally equivalent and likely to outlast kit that costs over five times as much. It's lovely to have the premium gear, but it's also worth considering that we're flying toy spaceships here. It's an astonishing amount of cash to lay down to play a game you can pick up tonight for under £5...
