Ships Just got a Type 7

And discovered the jump range is so bad it may as well just rust in the dock.

I put a D5 (all I could afford really) in it and the range when laden is about 9.5 light years. practically useless. Its 17Mcr but only has just over double the cargo capacity of a Type 6 which is 1/17th the price. Is this ship ONLY worth it when you have found a decent trade run?

So I need to find two stations within 10ly of each other and with High security as you cannot avoid Interdictions flying this thing. Also they need to have 1k credit plus profit at least one way. The ship is not capable of doing anything else except support this scenario. It cant even land on outposts...

At least you could use a T6 as an explorer and rare trades runner.

Someone try to stop me selling it and going back to an Asp or T6?

So you need over 5 million for an FSD that's actually enough to make it remotely useful?

I wish they put that in the sales blurb. Looks like back to my Asp then.

Any large ship - Factor at the very least 20 mill on the base price. You said you had barely enough to buy the D5? How where you expecting to purchase hundreds of tons of cargo, plus keep the ship insured?

You can always run part loaded (50% cargo) to increase jump range as you will lose money when trading back to an Asp.

D5 was all I could afford and keep insurance. Along with other upgrades of course.

No matter, back in my Asp. Spent the money I was going to use on the T7 on upgrades for it. I reckon I will skip the T7 entirely to be honest. It really is a poor ship unless you are a through and through trader.

The Type 7 is a single purpose ship primarily designed to cheaply haul a lot of cargo, just like the Vulture is a purpose built combat ship and makes a lousy bulk trader.

You can shoehorn any ship to do any job, but some are simply better at a particular task than others. If they were all good at all tasks it would make for a very boring ship selection.
