just got insta-killed

was fighting an elite NPC anaconda in my vulture

was going ok, then suddenly my shields went down, and i instantly died. didn't even see the shot that killed me. it was kitted with beams & PA's

wasn't close in (no collission), and wasn't infront of it (so couldn't have used it's plasma accelerators). no other ships and was in deep space (no rocks)

800k buy-back, not too much of a problem...but suspicious the game glitched out, never been killed like that before :-/

I guess IF the Anaconda hits a Vultures Reactor with a good portion of its weapons it might go boom instantly. Another reason could be lag.

I've gone from 1 ring of shields/100% hull to about 5% hull in one shot from "something" hitting me from a high-end Anaconda. I'd guessed PA, but as you said, you don't really attack 'condas head on unless you like talking to insurance companies (free Brian The Cobra toy?) I don't think lag, as you're in a local instance if it's NPC only, but it could be a glitch which allows PA hits? Maybe the 'conda did a quick FA-off spin that I missed. Dunno. At least you're smiling in your shiny new Vulture. :)

It could be a cheat in a hacked ship, ticket it with the location and time FD may be able to match it to cheats instance.

Were any system security around? Sometimes when I'm in a RES I'll get a wanted status without noticing. First I'll know about it is when my shields start melting.

I've had a couple of these, so I have shadow play running all the time so I can review afterwards now. Can be a help sometimes when you spot something you missed in the heat of the moment.

I have a long-running but unproven theory that NPC ships use duplicates of real commander's loadouts as a basis. As commanders shift and change through time, new loadouts becoming more popular with changes to the game, nerfs etc, you get NPC's following the trends to be able to keep apace with the human players.

Now what I suspect happens sometimes is you get a cheater's loadout being added to the list of valid fits for NPC's and so sometimes you'll get an NPC anaconda that can instantly flip on it's axis and nail you with a weapon it shouldn't be able to field.

NPCs are hacking their clients to cheat now?

I think the ai was made too intelligent. :/

Beware of wild unfounded speculations.

Nice wild theory, though FD did say that loadouts are related to combat rating, primarily- which seems more likely.

I have a theory that it's related to day of the week and the colour of the player ship's paintjob, but for some reason, no-one will listen :)
