Newcomer / Intro JUST GOT MY T7 shocked the hell out of me, !!!!!!!

... Hi CMDRS, Just got my credits up to have a T7. Still kept my ASP teethed up to A rates all round. Soooo, here's me all excited with my shiny toy. had enough credits to D rate everything ( as you do). Took her out for its first run, thinking this isn't too bad. I mean, I'm bigger, tougher, doh....... following initial jump, PUT THE BRAKES ON!!!!!!!!!!. nearly crashed into the star..... Then, got my bearings, only to be mugged by an Ai. Lucky me got away, Have not a clue how I managed that. Nearly there, Got jumped again. This time, boost, boost, chaff chaff...got away. Managed to dock. Now, I'm all for learning curves, but this!!!!!. I just cant believe this T7 is sooo vulnerable. So, I'm tempted to get back into my ASP, all snug with its, more than capable set up to handle OPEN PLAY. Then save till I can 'A' rate the T7. Or, should I just skip the T7 and go for a PYTHON lol.

Oh, and could I ask fellow CMDRS, is it worth having Missile Launchers AT ALL ????? Do they DO anything, BUCK 4 BUCK, or is that CRD 4 CRD... Thanks for reading..

Missiles hardly do anything to Shields and t7 only got 4 small hardpoints so i recommend ignore em and run whitout guns , as t7 hardly can do any dmg in combat it simply aint designeed for it , its a pure hauler of cargo.

I recomend you sell the T7 and get a cobra, upgrade it and head for Empire space to earn the rank of Byron and a permission to buy the Imp. Clipper. It's much faster and can carry a little more in it's Cargo hold and therefore a much better option as a Cargo hauler...
I know it's more expensive but it's worth it and for the price of an A-kittet T7, you can easely buy and do a few upgrades on a Clipper...
Aanyway that's what I did shortly after buying my T7... and I still have the clipper outfitted as a cargo ship, my asp as an explore, and then my viper and vulture as fun BH ship's, currently in Lugh having some fun... ;)

It's a beast, you'll get used to it :) I don't carry any weapons just a good shield and lots of chaff :) Never been popped yet :) always submit to interdictions and just run away :)

Come to really enjoy my T7 after my Asp. I do fight and kill Vipers, Eagles, Adders... the Cobras run away faster then I can kill them. Otherwise yes run, especially from Clippers and Pythons

Thanks for the advise CMDR Jan. Guess I may put the T7 into storage till I at least get a good shield, cheers CMDR Michael J.T.B.

Ha ha, wish I thought of that earlier. Just traded in my 'A' rated Cobra on rout to the T7 (damn). Like the Idea of the Empire thing. May just do both, Go venture over to Empire Land in my 'A' ASP. Cheers

Interesting CMDR, I'm wondering did you just ram them lol, or beat them over the heads with chaff.. Cheers

So CMDRS, If its pointless having missiles, don't bother with weapons. Should I bother with turrets just to at least shoot back at them while I'm running away. lol Thanks for reading....

T7 is a trader, Asp is ex-military. So I do not see how you can even compare them. T7 is good only for trading. And definitely there is little sense in good shields for it, it is all for a cargo capacity. So size 4 shields is what you would want to use or no shields at all. With Size 4 shields you can carry 216t, without shields 232t. This means that T7 doubles the trade profit of an Asp. If you want a safer ship than you should have bought a Clipper. Of course, you need to be a baron within the Empire to be able to buy it. But due to its high velocities it is much safer than T7. Not to mention that it has a slightly larger cargo capacity. The downside is shorter jump range.

Exactly. Well, the Clipper is a completely different ship. Is used it in Lugh and still not sure the FDL is better at fighting, but this is a different topic. Back in topic, put some A-rated thrusters on the T7 and it changes quite a lot. I also enjoyed it the last time I had it before buying the Clipper.

I would recommend the clipper, it is a far better trader than the t7, and for not very much more. I wouldnt use the clipper for anything else, as I don't chase down noobs trying to do rares runs.

No....Reverse then Beam and Chain gun them until they blow up or run away....

Yea the T-7 shapes up better running with A-rated equipment for sure....I've never had a Clipper but by all accounts it makes for a better trader than the T-7..I just never had the inclination to get the imperial rank that it takes to buy one

I was skeptical at the beginning, then I tried one.
In supercruise it moves way better than the T7, allowing you to make fast helicoidal approaches to the destination, and out of SC you can keep 420-440 speed constantly boosting. This means it covers the space from the disengage to the station entrance in almost half the time the T7 does. Just speechlees, but it costs a fortune to equip it A-rated.

On the T7, you really want the A-rated FSD to keep you from hanging out in too many anarchy or low-security sytems, even temporarily.

Always submit to interdictions, boost out of them and re-enter SC. Avoid systems with high player populations, as players are about the only real risk to you. A decent class 4-A shield with shield boosters will allow you to tank a good few hits from class 2 lasers while your FSD charges. There's not much that can mass lock you either.

No!!!!?!!!!!

The T7 is not a combat vessel. Strip the existing weapons and don't add more. If you get interdicted, submit and run. Keep good quality shields fitted and always have enough for insurance. Upgrade your FSD to A-grade as soon as you can to keep the number of hops on routes sensible. Upgrade your thrusters to C grade, and you'll have plenty of manoeuvrability for easy docking.

Do that, and fly sensibly, and you'll be fine. No amount of upgrades will fix an outright bad pilot, but it's a very forgiving ship for those that make the effort.

In a T7, you can evade NPC interdictions easily, but always submit when being interdicted by a player.
When your FSD cools down, SC, then IMMEDIATELY drop out of SC ... or they WILL follow you and interdict you again, and BOOST! BOOST! BOOST! BOOST! because they will follow you.
Go have a comfort break and a nice cup of tea/coffee/whatever before entering SC again.

+1 for grinding the Empire for a Clipper. Thats the route I took after losing my T7 to an interdiction. The Clipper is a joy to fly, look at and trade/fight with. A side benefit is after you grind the Empire, most of it is green (friendly) and trading becomes alot easier.

How so? I'm green with a lot of my favourite routes, and it doesn't seem to make any difference barring greeting text- not that there were problems before.

you do get the benefit of more juicer BB missions in the 125 - 250 K region for fetch + take missions as well :)
