Newcomer / Intro JUST GOT MY T7 shocked the hell out of me, !!!!!!!

I got on quite well with my T7 but not being able to land on outposts was it's biggest drawback - so be careful when accepting those missions and check they have large landing pads !

... Hi CMDRS, Just got my credits up to have a T7. Still kept my ASP teethed up to A rates all round. Soooo, here's me all excited with my shiny toy. had enough credits to D rate everything ( as you do). Took her out for its first run, thinking this isn't too bad. I mean, I'm bigger, tougher, doh....... following initial jump, PUT THE BRAKES ON!!!!!!!!!!. nearly crashed into the star..... Then, got my bearings, only to be mugged by an Ai. Lucky me got away, Have not a clue how I managed that. Nearly there, Got jumped again. This time, boost, boost, chaff chaff...got away. Managed to dock. Now, I'm all for learning curves, but this!!!!!. I just cant believe this T7 is sooo vulnerable. So, I'm tempted to get back into my ASP, all snug with its, more than capable set up to handle OPEN PLAY. Then save till I can 'A' rate the T7. Or, should I just skip the T7 and go for a PYTHON lol.

Oh, and could I ask fellow CMDRS, is it worth having Missile Launchers AT ALL ????? Do they DO anything, BUCK 4 BUCK, or is that CRD 4 CRD... Thanks for reading..

Not sure if it was answered before - forget T7 and Get yourself a Clipper, if you can. Only 5m cr more, but handles like a medium ship, can take a punch and can outgun most opponents outside Python/Anaconda. Oh, also can outrun anything in the game.

Missiles are no longer a viable option against shields. I'm on a verge of dropping my point defense altogether.

The Clipper is 300m/s and 380m/s boost. The Viper is 320m/s and 400m/s boost.

you do get the benefit of more juicer BB missions in the 125 - 250 K region for fetch + take missions as well :)

Right, but that's not what he said, he claimed that "most of it is green (friendly) and trading becomes alot easier", still mystified :)

I don't remember how much can an A-rated Viper do, but a Clipper with A-rated thrusters can keep 430-440 m/s constant.

I, honestly, don't remember if my Clipper was keeping 430-440 constant, maybe in a lighter configuration. I know for a fact that fully A-rated combat spec ship (meaning relatively heavy one) had about 430 boost speed and about 380-400 cruising speed. What I meant about outrunning is the fact that when interdicted you are dropped several kilometers from the attacker. With the speed above and the inability of Viper or Cobra (not sure about Vulture) to mass lock the Clipper it can jump into supercruise before any shots actually land. And none of Python, FDL or Anaconda can hold candle to Clipper in terms of speed - its cruising speed is higher than their boost speed.

Clipper:
Top Speed 300 m/s
Boost Speed 380 m/s

Viper:

Top Speed 320 m/s
Boost Speed 400 m/s

(Apparently :D)

Those a E-rated thrusters numbers for both. That's why the question was about A-rated Viper. I haven't flown it in more than a month and really don't remember.

Well, my fellow CMDRS. I'm overwhelmed by your invaluable insight into what TO and what NOT TO do with the T7. May I say to the CMDRS whom may of mistaken my comments on thinking the T7 was to be used as a combat ship. (Noooooo). I was trying to get an idea of if the T7 was to be used as a cargo ship that COULD counter-attack as it ran away. Or just run away? The answer is JUST RUN AWAY, FAST. As for the my ASP to be used into Empire Land to give my that all inspiring "Clipper", That's the joy of ED, "choice", not "script"...

Looks like I will run with the T7 on a run to run bases, forgoing any need to "shout back" at the bad guys as I run away. Back to the yard to sell the guns, missile launches, turrets, EMP's (as if). I'm off to "Strap on a clean pair of pants, 4 pips to the shields and off we go with a belly full of Palladium"... too ...... cough, cough, end of transmission......... Thanks for reading.

:) None of pure traders can punch back except against Sidey or a Hauler. Run, and run fast!

Got myself a T7 and liked it, now running my Asp off to rank up in the Empire to purchase the Clipper. With a T7 you run, with a Clipper you have choices:)

Not if it's properly fitted for trade, you don't. Strip it down, stuff it with cargo, and put the pedal to the metal :)

My T7 could cheerfully take on AI opponents in anything smaller than an Asp. I kitted mine out with A4 shields, chaff launcher, point defences, turreted beam lasers on top and bottom, and a couple of gimballed multicannons on the front. Submit to interdiction, flight assist off, power to WEP and SYS, keep spewing chaff, and keep a turret pointed at the pirate at all times while trying to spin round and get them in your front sights. If you also sacrifice 4t of cargo space for a shield cell bank, you should be golden.

I wouldn't take on a human CMDR in one, and I'd probably still flee from all but the wimpiest of NPC wings, but the lone-wolf AI pirates certainly tend to get more than they bargained for. I started out hating the T7, but I have to admit the interstellar Mack truck grew on me after a while :)
