Just got some lenses from VR Lens Lab

So I've had a bit of a rough time with my rift. My first rifts lenses were damaged by my glasses, glasses also damaged. Got a replacement rift and I started using contacts, I hate contacts. The only reason I ever put them in was to use my rift, and they're pretty uncomfortable.

So I got a pair of lenses from the VR Lens Lab https://vr-lens-lab.com/ and they're really great. I got the RABS lenses for €20 more cause people had said the normal lenses could cause kind of barrel vision and RABS lenses are apparently the solution to that.

There is a tiny amount of distortion at the very edge of the lens, but I never see it unless I specifically try to. My eyelashes brush against the lenses a little, but it's not annoying. The prescription is perfect, as good as my normal glasses. Overall they are definitely the best solution for my rift and I'm really happy with them.

I went with the ones from WIDMOvr https://widmovr.com/product/oculus-rift-prescription-lenses-adapter/, and got to say I'm pretty happy with them so far. It clips into the interface very neatly and is a doddle to fit and take out.

It also works fine with the replacement interface I got from VR Cover https://vrcover.com/product/oculus-rift-facial-interface-foam-replacement-basic-set/, but requires a little bit of blu-tack or similar to keep the bottom feet in, as the plastic rim on the replacement interface is a bit thicker than the standard Rift one which the feet would normally clip over. A little sausage of blu-tack by each foot has kept it firmly in place, and so far it's been trouble free and has stayed in just fine. Just to reiterate, if you use the standard interface, that's not an issue anyway.

I've also been using contact lenses up to this point, which I wouldn't normally use, but I get dry eye anyway as it is and the contacts plus using the Rift just make it worse. Also it's a pain having to put them in just to use the Rift, which meant that for shorter game sessions where I'd just want a quick hour, I'd just not bother using the Rift at all. Now I can pop it on whenever I fancy. If you wear glasses then I would definitely recommend going with one of the lens inserts available. There is also this company doing them, https://vr-lens.eu/, but you'll have to hunt around for some reviews as I have no idea what they're like.

I have a set from VR Lens Lab as well, and my prescription is severe enough that it needed the premium lenses, and there's quite a bit of spherical aberration. It's much, much better than trying to force my glasses in though, as mine also damaged the Rift lenses. The scuffing isn't overly severe, since I caught it just when it was becoming noticeable, so I've been putting up with it. I do wish the Rift lenses could snap out for a simple replacement.

I have a set of the WIDMO lenses on the way too. Good to hear they work with the VR Cover's frame, since I have that as well. Blue tack will be fine. I think I have some somewhere. :) This set looks appealing since it's more concave to your eye, unlike the VR Lens Lab versions, which should reduce the distortion. They may also stay in place better, being on a single solid frame.

My expectation is that I'll by a CV2 as soon as it comes out, and have to go through all of this again eventually. But for now, these solutions work pretty well.

I was going to get some, but I have the Pimax 5k on kickstarter which is meant to be far more comfortable with glasses. Plus it will come with a lens attachement which I can take to my opticians to put the correct lenses in.

Well here's mine.

They sit just a few mm away from the main lenses. I haven't noticed any distortion or barreling, but then I don't have a very strong prescription for my short sightedness. If anything, I think this is the clearest my HMD has ever been. Wearing my own glasses with it was just awkward and my frames don't fill my vision anyway, and my contacts were never as clear as my glasses. So these lenses are the best it's been for me so far. Short of getting laser eye surgery, I think this is the best it'll get for me. I hope yours work out well for you too.

And here's my blu-tack solution. They're actually set pretty firmly in there where the blu-tack is, and in fact when I clean them, I have to hold them in at the top where they slot in as they're more likely to pop out there. Nice and easy to clean both sets of lenses as they just come out with the interface. The blu-tack was going to be a temporary solution as I didn't expect it to work very well, and I was considering doing a bit of work with my craft knife on the interface so that they'd clip in, but so far the blu-tack has been fine.

Great info, as I have ordered the WIDMOvr lenses and just got the replacement VR Cover bits.

Currently wearing my glasses inside the rift which isn't ideal (especially as they are varifocals) so looking forward to getting the lenses. Looking through the distance part of my glasses now though the rift is crystal clear. I spent a few weeks when I first got the rift not wearing glasses, but it really was blurry. :D

Guess I'll make sure I have some blu-tack for when the lenses arrive. :)

Chaz, Thanks for the pictures!

My WIDMO lenses arrived yesterday. Now that I have those AND the ones from VR Lens Lab, I can do a meaningful comparison. I may write more detail on it later, but the short version is basically this:

They're both great quality and will do the job. The VR Lens Lab lenses are a little quicker and easier to take in and out, for cleaning and letting someone else use the HMD, but have pretty noticeable spherical aberration. The WIDMO lenses on the other hand stay in place a bit better, since they use a solid frame, and they also do not have that spherical distortion. They do however "stretch" the depth perception more than the VR Lens Lab set does. This is fine, IMHO, as I'd rather have a good sense of distance outside the cockpit, at the expense of having a little exaggerated depth inside the cockpit.

Overall I now prefer the WIDMO lenses, but both are very good solutions overall.
