Just heard of another CMDR dying in real life - time for the Tionosla ship graveyard?

I know people have wanted this for a long time, but just as a general location.

Perhaps FD could put it in, and when a player is confirmed dead in real life, the last ship they were flying could be added to the graveyard along with a their name somehow attached to the ship.

I know FD do beacons and other stuff already, but i think a ship graveyard would be a nice way to add these memorials and would put them all in a single location.

What a beautiful idea! The Tionisla ship graveyard is long overdue in Elite: Dangerous. I'm not sure what the technical difficulty is with creating this in-game (if there is one ... perhaps an area with hundreds of wrecked ships is too big a load on the engine) but perhaps if the ship graveyard could be created then there could be a tourist beacon there with a roll call of fallen commanders whose text could be semi-regularly updated?

IIRC Paige wrote something recently about there no longer being enough resources to allocate to memorials.

I agree it's a good idea.

I would suggest to put it on a nice ELW from where both Heart and Soul nebulae are visible at night.
When atmospheric planets and ELW will be accessible we will also be able to visit the place.
In the mean time a beacon orbiting the planet could collect names and ships.

This would be a great community feature, but perhaps engine limitations mean it can't happen (e.g. too many assets in a particular instance).

It'd certainly catapult the game into the mainstream media.

That's the beauty of this idea - no need to keep adding more and more memorials - all they have to do is add names to the roll call on this one "graveyard" tourist beacon.

I met him in-game, went out to BP with him last year with my conda as support truck for his aborted sidewinder attempt, then waited for him to catch back up in a T-6. Thanks for mentioning it, I had no idea before reading this thread.
I only learned about this myself this morning, he passed away last weekend. I hope Agony Aunt and others don't mind me mentioning it directly but, not to derail this excellent game suggestion thread, personally felt it was the right thing to do.

Nice idea certainly more egalitatrian than naming stations and assets.

I also think it could be a nice comunity feature. A beacon with a list of names, a field of abandoned ships and flood lights, at Tionisla and only in-game commanders.

There is a bit of difference between unique memorials placed all over the galaxy compared with a single location where they just need to add another ship spawn to the list. Hopefully we are not dying at such a rate that the number of ships there would become a problem. If it did, they could always RNG which ships appear.

Yes, if assets were a problem, there could also be a single structure. Then it would just be a list requiring some changes to text.

It could be some kind of structure on a planet with a nice view, close we have a beacon with the list o fallen Commanders.
