Absolute tragedy,

I went to a the Bottom live tours in the 90's, he and Ade were both brilliant.

Will be sadly missed.

Ive seen and reseen the various Bottoms Live shows and laughed my ass off to them…This makes me sad indeed :(

Woooah! :(
Sadly missed.

"Neil, the bathroom's free. Unlike the country under the Thatcherite junta...."
Thanks Rik, for loads of laughs over the years!
:D

A shame....

British Comedy will never be the same......

Most recalled by myself in a very brief cameo in American Werewolf in London as one of the chess players in the Slaughtered Lamb.

As Rick in The Young-Ones.

As Flashard in one of the later version s of Black-Adder.

I also saw him in some series about crime where was being very serious.

Not sure I'd ever picked up on the American werewolf cameo.

Lord Flashheart (was very tempted to use him as an avatar a while back) was a masterful over the top creation - Alan B'stard MP was great too - and of course The Young Ones..

Quite a shock.

Really sad news, one of the great comedians and writers of his generation. From the madness of "The Young Ones" and "Bottom" through to the slimy genius of "Alan B'Stard" via many others. He will be sadly missed. RIP.

Quite shameful this is the only topic on the subject, I could find here.

Gonna miss the b'stard. :(

He will always be Rik from the young ones to me.

"I feel sorry for you, you zeros, you nobodies. What's going to live on after you die? Nothing, that's what!

This house will become a shrine! And punks and skins and Rastas will all gather round and all hold their hands in sorrow for their fallen leader! And all the grown-ups will say, 'But why are the kids crying?' And the kids will say, 'Haven't you heard? Rick is dead! The People's Poet is dead!'

And then one particularly sensitive and articulate teenager will say, 'Why kids, do you understand nothing? How can Rick be dead when we still have his poems?"

I loved Bottom back in the day. Some absolute classic comedy.

The Chess one always makes me laugh and the episode where the gas man turns up was priceless. :)
