Newcomer / Intro Just how big is the station port?

I think I'm pretty good at docking but not perfect by any means, typically taking around 90 seconds from requesting docking around 6k out to hitting the pad. But I am left wondering how big the letterbox actually is? I've not long upgraded from a Cobra to a T6. Most of the time I just get the proximity warning when going through, but since changing I think I'm seeing more impact warnings also. I've not actually hit anything yet, but do wonder how much space I have around me. I know there are much bigger ships, so that might not be so much fun at my current skill level...

I also wonder how much of the ship is above or below me. The external views for the Cobra for example show the cockpit fairly high up, so does that mean I should give more space below? Or am I seriously over-thinking it? Wish I had external cameras at this point...

Hey just stick around for a while and watch the other ship flying in and out. Gives you some idea how much space is around the hull. It's defiantly bigger when it looks.

How big is the mail box, wellllllll you can fit a T6 and a T9 side by side and not touch each other except that paint on the left side of your T6 will be on the wall or on part of the grill, so no worries give her the gas and hug a wall you should be good to go unless I am comming in on the wrong side hugging the same wall, so be ready to duck.;) I have left a lot of paint on the mail box wall, an old CMDR lament:)

I know you can fly in sideyways in a sideywinder. Never tried that in my Cobra, I think it would end in tears.

I saw a T9 come through one tonight, looked like a tight fit.

I've dinged the mail slot a couple of times avoiding unexpected ships. Doesn't hurt too much and I haven't been fined yet.

I never remember, but it's normally a good idea to put full pips to SYS when docking, just in case...

If the Coriolis station is 1km x 1km (face), then we should be able to work-out the dimensions of the letterbox to within a few...er, parsecs. ;)

One source said the station is "2km x 2km x 2km"...which seems at odds with every other report I've seen (1km x 1km x 1km).

Think you can fly in sideways in a cobra, hauler, sidewinder and possibly an adder (not sure on that one).. It is hard to judge the scale due to it feeling so all around (perhaps its easier in rift)

Let's put it this way - an Anaconda is supposed to (not yet in-game) be able to contain a docked Sidewinder within it, and an Anaconda has no problem fitting through the slot with space to spare...if you're not flying a T9 and you're scraping the sides, then you're doing something wrong! :)

I'm curious myself. I come ripping into that slot like I've got a hot steak and a naked girl waiting for me.

It seems like it might be tight even in the sidewinder, however I haven't attempted to enter sideways yet just to see.

-just wait outside the letterbox and check the free space around ships that enter and leave. I was able to turn around in the box with my Python (forgot permission and had no reverse thrust mapped), lost some shields but no hull damage.
-the inside of the stations is very large, I think 1km is not enough. You can fly loopings with a Python inside stations :)
