Just logged in to exploding ship!

Have been out exploring for around two weeks, logged out a couple of days ago in the middle of nowhere (I mean, not close to any stars/etc), and have logged in tonight to a message saying "Ship distroyed" - not too happy with this, obviously - loosing a couple of thousand scanned systems is not a good thing at all. Any reason why I'd just explode on login, and is there anyway to retrieve exploration data?

This happened to a friend recently - I think the outcome of his ticket was they were unable to restore the data.

Sorry but you may be stuck with it..

Nope - always make sure I'm a long way from any bodies in the system, and am 'parked' (speed at zero) before logging out (although I'm not sure this should be necessary for the 'logout and save' option. If I can't get the data back, don't think I'll be back either - not too keen on playing a game where you can lose two weeks of progress without doing anything! :-(

Ah man, horrible to loose that much scanned data :(

- - - Updated - - -

logged in at a RES and blew up.

A RES site is full of asteroids so that isn't exactly a surprise, and why most people don't log in them. Loosing your ship while simply logged out in the void far away from any celestial body is very different. Especially when you have weeks worth of data on board.

It's the nightmare scenario for an explorer.
When I log out I fly well away from anything, make sure nothing is near me for a few hundred LS in any direction, slow to zero throttle, exit SC, let the ship slow to a complete stop then wait a couple of minutes.
Then I will save and exit.
Its bad enough losing a ship in populated space but when you've catalogued and scanned 500+ systems, found numerous earth types and plenty of other interesting sites, losing all that would just finish my will to play for a good while.
I have 10 days worth of data, Im not even bothered about how much money it would lose, its more the discovered by tags etc.

Man thats sad, I hope they look into it. That bug sounds very annoying. Especially 14 days into exploring. Much credits and progression lost. Hope you get progression back :)

This is a pretty scary bug. It really needs addressing. Nobody should lose a ship just by logging in no matter what the circumstances. Cant the game just do a simple check - if player position = same x,y,z coords of another body already in system, put them 100ls away from the body or something.

I think you might have inadvertently appeared inside a planet or its zone of exclusion. I almost got steamrollered by a fast moving planet once by stopping in its orbit path.

That's the worry - it's very easy to lose a lot of data with high value without actually doing anything; in this way the exploring penalty is far greater and harder to recover from than other gameplay types. I'd have hopefully been able to return and get Elite status, but just can't face going back out there again for a couple of weeks...especially if I might just spontaneously explode for no apparent reason. Just had a quick look at the bug forum, it appears there's other players this is already happening to - seems odd that with space being so big, and the amount of area 'filled' being so small, that people can appear inside a planet or asteroid!

Very sorry for the op.

I ve done 130 000 ly in 3 trips. I was one day stuck at locking screen. Support was able to save my savegame with a manual teleportation.

I know how frustrating it could be in your case.

Just had my ticket resolved; docked back at the last station I was at with all data intact! :-D :-D :-D Bit of a long trek to get the 18K LY out again, but very happy that I had all my data back, so good result there!

Now to spend the rest of the day selling to Universal Cartographics... :-D

That is a , but if I could just save one thing from A. The data and 'first' tags B. The money or C. The explorer rank (from the money), I would choose A every time.

Ah...perhaps not. Exploration data was updated; but only had three pages of data to sell (total profit 2.1m cr!) Aaaargh!!!!

Are you saying that they recovered some but not all of your exploration data? That really is a kick in nuts.

I'm 8k from home after 6 weeks out, so 3,500+ systems scanned. I don't know what I'd do if I spontaneously detonated on login...
