just looking at mission screen but not taking the mission subtracts from reputation

I noticed the following: whenever I check mission descriptions and do not take the mission immediately I get a reputation penalty. I think this only happens when I click "decline" to check my cargo or galaxy map. I guess this can be avoided by opening the galaxy map or whatever else you need with a hotkey, since then you technically haven't clicked "decline". Basically, declining a mission once or several times while reading descriptions and checking targets, commodities and system data will subtract from your reputation and then the mission becomes unobtainable to you, because now the faction doesn't trust you enough!

I consider this a bug, because reading the mission description and then checking other information and coming back to the mission description has to be possible through the UI. "Decline" in the context of the UI means "back to the last screen", not "I do not want to work for this faction, hit me with a penalty"

I doubt this only happens to me. I was able to repeat this bug at any station I visited, on any day I played. Ticket it.

I haven't yet to see this myself, but I suppose I rarely pay attention. Good catch CMDR - please submit a ticket on this and have some rep!

I just restarted the game and tried again. It's happening. Decline, leave bulletin board, come back, now the mission is unobtainable because they don't trust me. I haven't figured out how many times you can click decline, but I guess just using the UI of the game can kill your reputation.

Nope. It also happens, when you agree to take a mission. My guess is, that theres a bug, letting you take all the missions, even if you dont have the rep, that are available. There are no "we do not trust you enough" missions when you open BB for the first time.

Unless you claim, that taking a mission lowers your rep too?

There is definitely something dodgy going on with the Available/Not Available Missions. They seem to come and go almost completely randomly.

1) You can be allied to a faction, and still be told a mission isn't available because they don't trust you enough.

2) You can find a mission available and if you close and reopen the BB it has magically become unavailable due to lack of trust (nothing to do with opening or declining it).

Something is amiss. I have browsed missions innumerable, and I am very carefully tracking my arrows, so to speak. This is new to me.

Edit: I have however seen missions change the status as obtainable/unobtainable as described above, by browsing the market for example. So there is something going on here, had forgotten about that part.

I don't think this is correct.
If it is happening, it should be easy to demonstrate.
Start the game, screenshot your reputation page on the right HUD, decline a mission, screenshot it again. If you are correct, you should have red down arrows.
I doubt you will.

I'm guessing you don't know, but when you're checking missions out you can turn headlook on (click right stick if you're playing with a 360controller, don't know about anything else), and then you can browse ~all~ your system panels, including galaxy and system maps, while still having the mission screen open. Just look around, your left and right panels will pop up. In the meantime, that'll solve at least part of the issue.

edit: I just checked whether this happens to me or not. It doesn't.

Now that you mention it, I've seen this happen too, didn't realise why it was happening though.

Probably explains why the only faction I've done missions for, the Feds, actually dislike me, I go in and out of the mission screen a lot checking things.
