Just made elite in trade which surprised me because I only recently started mining

I saw the message and couldn't believe I was elite already. It is exponentially easier to become elite trading than in combat. Combat was an absolute grind.

Anybody have an idea what it takes to be elite in exploration?

Indeed becoming Elite in trade is the easiest path in the game and the easiest way to unlock the Foubders' sector, Shinra Desrata (spelling?), though it still takes a fair bit of effort...

I became Elite in trade about a year ago, though I've been playing the game since the PS4 launch, while I still have a fair way to go in the other paths! :O :D .

On ranking up in combat, it's rather annoying that having an NPC SLF pilot HALFS the amount of combat XP you earn, even after they hit max rank!

While flying in a wing shares any of your combat XP (as do you share in their kills)...

It's a pity flying with a fighter pilot is such fun and I don't want to get rid of them! :O :D .

Meanwhile it's annoying that if you're flying as multicrew member on someone else's ship and ye earn kills, I believe you "only" earn credits and no XP for the kills!

I never have flown in a wing. Strictly solo. I used to seek out high intensity combat zones. It would have been a bit easier if I had discovered the compromised nav beacon/stacked massacre mission earlier but I was already elite when I stumbled upon that. Fantastic way to earn some credits and rack up the total of enemies destroyed.

I got Elite exploration when I handed in Ram Tag's first mission.
The ranks were set when credits were hard earned and haven't kept pace with how easy it is to get them now.
Combat rank isn't credit based so has retained the slog needed to acquire it.

I like this game precisely because of the grind. There are plenty of easy games to play if that's what somebody wants.

If you do BGS work, you typically get involved in bounty hunting and combat zones, so combat rank actually progresses quite smoothly, even with an SLF pilot.

The galling thing is watching your elite SLF pilot swanning around while you are still dangerous!

Edit: My current Odyssey character is much slower, as half of my missions CZs are now on foot, but I'll get there.

Yeah if you take a look at how many elite traders in inara and then how many elite explorers and then how many elite combat are around you see how easy two are . Trade is pure profit so mining . My first trip to beagle netted me 400 mil after 3.5 months of work . Now I can make 20 mil for 2 hrs exploration a night . So combat is the only hard elite . And don't get me started on the prestige ranks 🤦‍♂️.

Doing sightseeing missions in Robigo will help with both trade rank and exploration rank

Other than that: FSS Systems, Map Planets, Sell data (think it was well under 1bn needed to get Elite in Exploration... maybe well under 500 millions credits)

Slightly off topic, but it's really annoying that they dropped percentage listings for all ranks in all versions of the game after Odyssey came out, only displaying it in progress bars that make it very to hard to judge if you're making any progress at all!

Bizarrely, though thankfully you can still see your combat rank as a percentage when you look at the "down" console in the cockpit, but as for trade and exploration, it makes tracking them very difficult...

Personally I'm as said now Elite in trade, so don't need to track that, while as said thankfully you can see combat rank displayed properly if you look down, however I'm still rather perplexed when trying to see how well I'm doing with exploration! :O :D .

Nah, they're fine...
Quick access to ganka's paradise.
Indeed I think they're fine too, combat rank is just too much of a grind, now as said I'm admittedly playing every game with ten man, basically needing twice the amount of kills because I don't want to get rid of my SLF pilot, but still, I only recently managed to grind up to the combat rank necessary to unlock Lori Jameson, when I've been playing since the PS4 version launch and I feel like an absolute combat veteran at this stage, but I've a LONG way to go! :O :D .

Trade and exploration Elite ranks are an embarrassment.

It's not the ranks, it's the inflation of credit rewards.
Only we know what we did to acquire our ranks so what we accomplished on the way is what makes them worthwhile. Those that simply ground some get rich quick scheme won't value the rank whilst those that actually went through the slog know what it is worth.
