Just Pulled the Trigger on a Rift.

It didn't arrive on Friday, so I'm still here ;) . It baffles me how something can hurtle several thousand kilometres across the world in just over a day then grind to a halt on my doorstep and not make it less than 200km in the same time...

Perth problems...

What's the Rift version of The Lab(That first game you run to experience VR?)

I have a Vive, so I know what Vive people typically experience first

You get an introduction with some example scenes, showing more or less realistic game graphics, some dinosaurs and standing on the edge of a skyscraper. And there are several demos, games, music videos and such things available for free.
If you have the Touch Controllers you will see the First Contact mini-game, where you can play with a little robot and some toys. Also, Robo Recall is included with touch, which is an awesome teleport style FPS game (works with reVive i heard and it is pretty awesome).

All that sounds like a good time. Those first few things you do, in VR, really set the scene. I hope he's enjoying it :)

So, setup was easy, only needed to re position sensors a few times. I enjoyed the demos thoroughly. The most frustrating part was all the micro adjustment to get the sweet spot with the HMD on. I've done a few runs in ED and messed with settings, I'll just go vr low with hmd 1.25 for now, my RX480 starts to go supernova if I turn it up any more. Maybe adjust a little as I get more comfortable with it all. I've got to be honest about how I felt about the SDE to start with, which was pretty bad, but now I've got my HMD adjusted right its not as bad and I almost don't notice it most of the time. And I noticed it gets much better with higher HMD Quality settings. And I dont mind the ASW at all, yet. Anway heres to the future and a better graphics card ;)

I was definately WOWed tho when I first put it on. I was smiling, and that doesn't happen to often. I absolutely felt woozy after the first session. ED is exponentially better with my Rift, even at VR Low vs 2D ultra. Now I'm thinking about taking a long trip into the black...

thats what i did.. held off exploring untill i got my rift cv1 and glad i did. exploring in vr is amazing.

So I've played a whole lot more now, and I'm really digging it. It's very special. My Rift is probably the coolest thing I've ever owned. After reading some threads here I saw someone suggest turning SS down to .65, if I do that I can crank it up to VR High with HMD 1.25. Works pretty good (90fps most of the time) and my GPU is hardly breaking a sweat (its only a RX480 btw). As I'm getting more used to it, I am getting much more immersed in the game, not really noticing the imperfections with the tech, forgetting where I am. :p

the lab is cool...... btw i take it you have reVive? if not you should get it,

there are heaps of free apps on the oculus store inc dreamdeck which is the equalent to the lab you are asking about.

In a week or two, playing on a monitor feels like a kids toy... VR adds so much to the experience.

I just picked up my Oculus last week - I've been absolutely blown away by the experience so far, as an original Elite player, this is the stuff we always dreamed of. I would definitely advise getting Voice Attacks. Not only is it much more practical, but it add's greatly to immersion (I have the voice of Tim Baker as Midnight!).

I just wanted to also say thanks to all the people who have contributed their knowledge and experience to helping others (less tech savvy like me!) get their VR experience the bext ot possibly can be. It shows what a great bunch of people there are playing this game.

Hopefully see you all in the black sometime,

all the best, TC.

P.s I'm very excited to see what the next gen VR will bring us!
