Just realized something

Was happy when I got my first Eagle after a week of play. On one of my subsequent save resets I had an A-rated Eagle within two hours.

I am happy that I started to play the game at a time when getting a Cobra Mark 3 felt like a real achievement.[smile]

Agreed,
achievements earned.
Can't remember how much time i spent in the eagle.
But i worked the CZ of Eranin of old for it with a pulse laser-sidey
until my fingers were sore.

Good times, especially when i tried out the cobra,
sold it after 2 hours in favor of an eagle again,
as it made the game too easy and felt like a cheap cheat:D

There is no reason not to stick with small and med ships.

I actually have had the ability to "upgrade" to something other than my Cobra MkIII for a while now... but looking at the specs and the handling... they're not really upgrades at all. Owning an Anaconda is less about having something that actually works better, and more about a symbol of social status. Kinda like owning an Apple device. :p

I miss those days. I reset my save to be forced to go back to the early ships, but it's just not quite the same.

I did enjoy getting my first cobra, so much so that I'm going to see how far I rank up on a 2nd account with just a Cobra (and a sidey for the first few hours) but 2nd time round it seemed quick and not much of an achievement.

I do like the big slow ships though

Ah, I thought you were going to say that you'd just realised you had forgotten to put the bins out.

I was also very pleased when I purchased my first cobra. It took some trading to achieve.

100 LY exploration route limit.... Oh... Those first guys were real heroes.

Missions that paid tiny pennies compared to know, and most 'safe' way of earning was trading. Which I did. For few months!

Those lower bounties for destroying large ships...

And you would need to find a specific station to cash them in, because only stations main faction paid it's bounties. I remember I switched ships to a smaller one to fly to outpost to cash in some bounties.

Those were the days.... (grumbles in the corner)

The funny thing is, even though I have an Anaconda, Python, FdL, and about 10 other ships, I just bought my first Cobra mk. III today. Pretty neat little ship.

Still flying my first cobra, on the way back from Colonia in it now, of course I haven't been playing for as long as some others on this thread, but I don't understand the rather strange desire by a few to immediately cash in every red cent and purchase the latest shiny, I admit I did once sell my T6 to finance a Python, and yes I really like the Python, but now I have a T6 sitting out in Colonia next to my Python. I wouldn't do it now if I started again. Currently on my way to the bubble to buy a keelback. I must admit I consider the smaller ships to be mostly disposable taxi's, yes I know deplorable, but I don't think will ever sell this Cobra. If I cashed it all in I could have a Conda, meh I will get one eventually without having to worry about losing it.

And of course if I am ever silly enough to fly without insurance and get burned I can just wave my wand and summon my Cobra/T6/whatever else I have handy!

truth.

Getting into a new ship was such an exciting thing. New sounds. New flight characteristics. It was really like buying a new car IRL. Sometimes logging on just to look at it. I'd love it and appreciate the hell out of it. I'd max it in every way shape and form to extend it's life and purpose and experience as much of the game as I could until I could afford a more convenient ship to do things in. It's something new players will never know.

Hehe i know what you mean^^
When i first bought the 'cheap' Cobra MK.III i realised, i don't have even a part of the money for outfitting of her^^
My really first beloved achievement was the Hauler =P after this the Type-6 which i used for a very long time. This was my earned ship and it felt so great.
But it was the time where the AI was so braindead, that i was able to shoot down an Anaconda in my Type-6 so....i'm not sure if it would feel that great today too :D but at this time, the Type-6 was all what i needed.
At the end i was really disappointed about the Cobra MK.III because i had the feeling, that she is way too expensive for what you get :( she is a ship that you need to learn to love. Today i like her very much but it wasn't always this way

I remember the slog to get a Type - 6 and then that long period swapping between the cobra and the T6.
Loved em.

I could afford A rated on one, but not both for a while and always spent time stripping and buying components when swapping ships.
Cool paint jobs too.
This one was inspired by Chris Foss:

I'm a Vulture / Python / Asp kinda guy these days, but I never sell a hull.

30hrs? It took me at least taht just to make the jump from the Cobra to the T6 :)

Took me that long to get in a Viper, then another few hundred to be able to afford anything that needed a medium pad.

Of course, I like the Viper so much that I was never in a hurry to surpass it.

Well I remember it took me 2 or 3 months to get a Python (1.2=1.3 time period), Lough campaign for a good early boost for me, I went from 1.5MCr Type-6 to about 20MCr in the bank through Khaka (the gun running) CG. So even back then, my initial few weeks were quite quick.

Although I currently get to play a little more being "between roles", I have gone from new Cmdr at Asselus Primus to 75MCr in about 3 weeks, and this is just playing the game. Had the fun doing it differently - I have not actually owned a Cobra this time round, about to own one to go to the Pleiades, to get a meta-alloy. I'm guessing next week will be buy a Python week.

My friends and I were talking just about this a few days ago, when one of the sightseeing missions made me fly past our old stomping grounds near Zelano. Back when it took us quite an effort to get from LHS 3447 to Imperial space in Adders and Sideys, without being able to wing up :D And the joys of trading up from a Cobra to an Asp, which took quite an effort, especially since I overcooked it at one point, and boosted a Cobra fully loaded with gold into the station wall...

Though the single biggest "achievment" that I can recall was an Imperial rank up mission in the olden days, when they sent me to fight a Clipper in my Adder. I had to call in help from my friend in her T6, who had to follow me in using a wake scanner as wings were not implemented yet. Now that was quite an experience.
