Just started playing? Having problems in combat? This might help

Hey guys,

I have decided to make a video series around thrusters, especially geared towards the newer player, and those wanting to get an edge on combat.

So here is part 1 Using thrusters vs Not using thrusters.. Pretty self explanatory..

Hope you like!

Wouldn't it have been better to use fixed weps & a hazRES to illustrate the advantages of thrusters better & avoid your target getting distracted by security attacking it!?

Otherwise, great vid as usual VJ :D

A number of reasons why I didnt.. I wanted to make this video for new commanders, new commanders are most likely to use gimballed and start off in lower classed resource extraction sites. I wanted them to learn how to take advantage of local security to help them out in combat. Also the FDL and Corvette video were in HAZ Res.

Cheers :)

If this is intended for new players, you probably should avoid terms like "reverse turn" - or at least explain it - since newbs won't have a clue what you mean.

It's hard to know how much to explain. I was watching a stream today of a guy who's on day 2. He literally did not know that a ship can move backwards.

I think VJ strikes a good balance.

Hmm, I dont think so, also this will be explained in the next video where I discuss actual maneuvers.

Exactly... I have seen many commanders thinking they are flying a flight simulator or an arcade space shooter where your always moving forwards. I think breaking someone out of that mindset is the first step.

Excellent video, as usual.

The whole "moving one direction / Shooting another" is a hard thing for new pilots. Just using FA Off to tumble past an opponent while rotating to line up a shot is difficult for some ( favorite move of mine, even in a Corvette ). Moving up, down, sideways should be second nature. ED is not Aces Over the Pacific. Vindicator : You might want to mention the 'Reverski".. it works, and it's effective against all except very experienced CMDRs. It is also an excellent example of moving in one direction and firing in another.

I especially like the tips at the end.

I always wait for the ship scanning me to declare "How do you make a living" and move off. When I open fire it gives a few extra moments of me firing while they try to turn back to me. It works even better on a wing, since all of them have to re-target me. A cheap shot, but it works.

Using security to get those first few big kills. A n00b in a Sidey can make good money in bounties if the local police are backing him up. If they're smart and lucky, they can score a quick million and bump up to a Cobra in 30 minutes.

Others, like 'keeping it in the blue", PIPs management, RUNNING.. all excellent tips for a newcomer, and basics every experienced CMDR knows.

I've played the game for more than 2 years and dunno what the heck that term means as a PvPer lmfao.

Thanks for thread and for content creating and even the "critics" content creating value. Check them when possible.

*Edit*: what I meant is that as a noob (and at the PS4), I get great value from your videos and teachings AND from opposite perspectives from YouTubers who criticize them. Also, I'm struggling a bit (and that's my fault entirely, because new to the game) with the FdL handling, so I hope your advice will help me with keeping the target at six and always having him on my sights.

Some guy suggested I should learn fixed ASAP. I am trying fixed, because I really respect advice from experienced players. But I do half that time with gimballed. Should I stick to fixed till the end, I guess…

Anyway, thx again. I value your work.

I stream fairly frequently, and it's still a constant source of surprise at what commanders genuinely do not know. Agreed, I think VJ has done well. Good work, sir! :)

Example: I blew someone's mind yesterday, when I fitted a class 1E fuel scoop to my stock sidewinder at the starter planetary base and stored the SRV module (hard-mode account, freshly rest, mmm love that new ship smell) and the response was "wait, you can do that?". It's easy to forget the learning curve is still actually gargantuan for the fresh recruits. :)
