Engineers Just started touching engineers

So I just got started doing anything in engineers. I have put G1 mods on my FDL and am quite pleased with the results. Anyway, I do have a couple of questions:

1. What are the differences between clean and dirty drive tunings? I don't want explanations that I could get from inara or the game itself. That doesn't help me. I would like a summary of the two. Pros and cons, and when each could/should be used. Do note that I am a PvE player. (Also if this turns into a PvE/PvP thread, I will absolutely report posts and close the thread if necessary)

2. Specialized legacy firmware: How hard is it to find? What are the best ways to find it?

3. Atypical disrupted wake echoes: A frame wake scanner will do? Yes? No?

As a final note, I am probably not going to be too concerned about having G4 and G5 mods on my ships. The only exceptions are probably FSD range and the drive tunings. I don't do PvP, so I don't need a maxed performance ship. And I don't want to sour this game by obsessing and grinding for a bunch of G4 and G5 stuff.

I owe the Fuel Rats a favor, so be it. Answers to inquisitions should be short and precise, though.

1. Thermal load vs. raw performance. Beam lasers vs. MCs. If your FDL or Vette get cooked during combat, you possibly should consider clean drives.

2. Inara says easy, I say hard. Currently, I got only 4 of these, but I don't do skimmer missions.

3. Yes.

YMMV [noob]

I know space travel can get very lonely, but you shouldn't resort to such actions...

This made me lol, literally :)

Go to low and medium security ground bases and scan the public data points. Make sure you have data storage available. Very easy. Got 12 of them yesterday at a single ground base from a friend's guidance. No combat needed.

G1 Mods are ideal for PvE. They are more than enough to enhance your game.

*edit*

Though I'd like to add that if you feel so inclined as to take out all of the ground defenses just for fun, that's a hoot, too :)
