Newcomer / Intro just started yesterday and want to know what ship i need for pirate hunting

yeah I am in the sidewinder and cant seem to win any battles against pirates. I end up running away. so what I want to know whats the earliest ship I can buy that will suffice for hunting pirates. also what set-up I shud go with

also is mining feasible in the early stages of the game

Sidewinder is good but you should get some upgrades - the power distributor A1 is your best bet to start with.

If you really want to move on, the Eagle is pretty adept at killing most ships that aren't Anacondas or Pythons. Again try to get the power distributor upgraded asap.

Mining is...I'd personally just avoid it :p

For bounty hunting I spent a long time in an eagle to begin with and found it to be pretty effective. It is really manoeuvrable so once you've got the hang of handling it you can take on much bigger class ships.

It's worth getting a kill warrant scanner if you are bounty hunting, as it will allow you to bag bigger bounties from other systems - without it you only get the bounties from the system you are currently in. As for other kit, it's a bit of trial and error to see what works for you - obviously bigger guns are better, and a mix of thermal to take down shields and kinetic to rip through the hull once the shields are down is good. I prefer beam lasers and multi-cannons, but everyone will have heir own ideas. Gimbled weapons will also make a big difference in hit rate over fixed unless you have much better targeting control that I do!

Shield cell banks may also be useful as the eagle has a pretty flimsy hull so you want to keep your shields up as much as possible.

As you get more credits, try to work towards getting a Viper if you want to stay bounty hunting.

No idea about mining I'm afraid as I've not tried that.

Good luck!

It's not the ship it's how you use it. If you're in a fairly basic Sidewinder it's more about picking your fights. You'd be nuts to go chasing anything Cobra or bigger, or indeed an Elite Sidewinder.

Start by looking for Sidewinder, Eagle, Hauler and Adder targets that are rated as harmless or mostly harmless - you should hold up against them in your Sidey. Then increase the skill level of your opponents as you learn how to fight.

If you do have the cash to upgrade your ship (and still have cash in the bank to rebuy when you get shot down) then an Eagle is a good step up from the Sidewinder. Upgrades-wise... I alway stick an A-rated power distributor in asap.

For me, the viper is the most fun to fly. That said; stick with the sidewinder until you can A-rate fit it; by which time you be adept enough at how the game plays to avoid some avoidable ways of dying whilst limiting the cost to your wallet. Make sure you can afford the rebuy cost at all times, keep an eye on the rebuy cost before and after refitting or purchasing a new ship (http://www.edshipyard.com) is a great resource for understanding costs.

Good hunting/

PS
I do not upgrade to a new ship until I have the credits to fit it with D-rated module (lightest modules); and ideally an A-rated jump-drive (FSD) & then focus upon twinking power plant & distributor.

You can not buy insurance in advance, you must have the funds (rebuy) in your wallet or you will be bounced back to a basic sidewinder. always insure you have the credits to cover the rebuy before you fly o7

A good advice you'll most likely hear a few times, is to always keep 3 times your insurance cost.

As for what ship, is really up to you.
Try them out as you can afford them.

I went from Sidewinder -> Cobra -> Asp, and they all served me well in my bounty hunting career, while still maintaining the ability for the odd mission run here and there.
Got a T6 on the side for trading.

No love for the adder here i see. Seriously try the adder. Its almost as manouverable as the eagle but without all the power problems... and it's much more versatile.
When you have more money, i agree that a viper is the best for you if you only do fighting, while a cobra covers about everything while still being almost as good as a viper in a fight.

+1 for the Eagle when you first get into the hobby, it's lots of fun and dirt cheap. As Pyrion says though, the Adder is pretty much a Best Of of the Hauler and Eagle combined.

A maxed out Sidewinder is great fun to use for bounty hunting. I skipped the Eagle and bought a Viper when I had enough funds to upgrade some core modules.
I had no trouble killing even Cobras with my Sidewinder, but that was after I first used Sidewinders and Eagles for target practice.

The advantage of the Sidewinder is that it is so cheap. It is not difficult to earn enough money with bounty hunting to pay for insurance. And even when you don't have the money to pay for insurance very little is lost. The Sidewinder is pure freedom. You will realize that once you own a bigger ship and have to pay a repair bill that is big enough to buy 10 sidewinders.
