I just got the Horizons beta working with my Vive devkit and thought I'd give a quick report. Note: this is my first time playing so go easy on me.
Setup: just picked the 3D - HMD with headphones option and that seemed to work. Probably obvious to all of you but I'm a noob and it took me a few stabs to figure out. Don't mess with changing the monitor!
I just needed to run the VR monitor first. Not SteamVR or anything else.
It's a bit difficult to read the displays in the HMD. Certainly not as crisp as a monitor but just barely usable.
It was a bit laggy at first but spot on tracking when I set the graphics in the HMD one level down. I have an I7 with a 980 graphics card.
There were two issues that I'd like to find a solution for:
1) Re-centering your position in the ship. When I started out I was outside of the ship and had to maneuver myself into a pretty awkward position to get inside of it. When I was out in the control panel afterwards I think I was using the "s" key to recenter but I'm not completely sure. I couldn't get it working again afterwards. I'm sure I could probably Google this or some knowledgeable person will respond with how to do this correctly. It would also be great if I could figure out how to re-orient to my position. I think it was setting that based on my initial position starting up the game but I'm not sure.
2) The chaperone walls are visible and I don't see any way to turn these off. It kind of pulls you out a bit from full immersion.
Overall, it's pretty fricking cool though. So far I've only been playing the developer demos (which are pretty good but I'm getting tired of them) in-between working on my game (BarBeeQ).
I really have to go get a proper joystick now. Playing with the keyboard was pretty tricky when you can't see it (other than the basic movement keys).
