Just tried to charge up at a White Dwarf...

... don't. Or, at the very least, be very, very careful.

FDuring my total experience of a handful of NS boosts, these went basically uneventful, once I strictly followed procedure: approach the jet from the direction of the star (i.e. flying outward), slowly does it, dip in and accelerate when you've got the boost.

Tried the same with a WD. Got a heat alert even before I was in the jet. Made it through, but wouldn't recommend it to explorers with anything major to lose. Looks like WDs need a lot more finesse than NSs.

...and all that stress for a meagre +50% charge

I did it yesterday. Haven't seen a NS yet and this was the first WD I had come across. I slowly headed up towards the direction of one jet and flew away from the star until I passed through and got charged up. Only lost 1% of the FSD, but didn't get much of a boost so I don't imagine I'd be utilising WDs that much anyway.

White Dwarfs seem to have a much larger "hate" range than Neutron Stars. Or...maybe they're just smaller? In any case, for the WDs I noticed I have to aim for the end of the jet, while NSs let me get in somewhere in the middle.

Decided to stay away from WDs though. Much higher risk and much lower gain.

I've also found NS much safer than WD.

I haven't figured out why yet. Possibly the exclusion zone on the WD is much larger.

i found the opposite experience :O

54ly - 211ly :)

0 damage on initial inspection - this was a Neutron star though

54Ly on a DBX, wow! I've been thinking about buying one and rigging it for Distant Stars (too attached to my Asp Explorer and Anaconda to go on a one-way trip with them) and Buckyball racing. What loadout are you using?
.
White dwarfs are similar in size to Earth, whereas neutron stars are more like the size of cities, so perhaps the danger zone of the jets scale accordingly? There's a Buckyball Racing Club event on now where all the waypoints are in white dwarf systems, so that might be a good opportunity to get some practice in https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/302104-Buckyball-Racing-Club-Day-of-the-Dead-Stars

well 53.86 on fumes but hey whats 0.14 ly between friends :p load out below (hopefully) if you're planning on buckyballing in a DBx... a T6 is faster due its fuel scoop issues.

i have been picking the scab on another DBx and modified it a bit further... i need to give engineers a break now :O
