The whole nomadic barman thing had me confused. It's a cute story and a nice bit of Elite lore, but it seemed like quite a lot of work to get a moving station into the game. It seems unlikely that Jacques is likely to be hopping about enough to warrant all that coding time... and then it suddenly hit me.
When else had I been docked at a station and suddenly found myself light years away in a completely different system?
THARGOIDS!!!
In FFE (and I'm not going to wrap this in spoiler tags... the game has been out for 20 years), you dock in the Thargoid ship at their forward base in Polaris and when you undock you're in Miacke (a system sadly lost in E
... at least for now).
While this is cool, I suspect the more likely scenario is going to be docking with the capital ships of the Imperial and Federal Navies which might move depending on campaign deployments.
Of course I could be wrong with all this, but all that work for one barman just seemed a little hokey to me...
