Just... WOW

Welcome to the VR club. Frontier have done an amazing job with VR in the game, some notable things for me are:

- sitting in the cockpit of Sidewinder, that thing is cramped. I felt compelled to reach for the handle on the upper left, it felt so close.
- the first time inside a station, looking around getting a sense of the massive scale
- all the Lakon cockpits, they seem as if they were designed for VR
- my first canyon run
- finally, standing in the middle of my room while looking at galaxy map, it felt as if I was in some kind of holo-deck setup. It's why the orrery view is now on my must have list :)

An orrey view would be neat but the system map is still kinda cool to look at. I took the DBX out for a 1500ly run Saturday. You know, traveling in VR is so much different than 2D, you really feel like you're going somewhere, way less obnoxious than flying in 2d which just feels more repetitive than 3d.

The 1070 is plenty good enough to run high settings/1.5 HMD/1.0 SS, as long as your CPU is up to the task also. I'm planning on skipping the 1080Ti and waiting for the next gen cards.

Me too. I have a 980Ti, which should be acceptable for VR (when my Pimax 8K arrives) and I plan to upgrade to a next gen card 1180 (or 2080???) or whatever, in mid-2018.

The first time I ever experienced VR was with Elite Dangerous.

I was at a friends house who has an Oculus Rift. He let me play around with Elite for about 10 minutes or so..

On the way home from his house, I stopped by Best Buy and bought a Rift.

I have a nice monitor.. 1440p 144hz.. and yes.. the game looks great. But once you have played Elite in VR there is simply no going back. After experiencing the game in VR even for just 10 minutes there was just no way I could play 'normal' again. Yes, the monitor has better overall resolution, text is easier to read.. blah blah blah.. it just doesn't matter.

I do find however that it's impossible to describe to non VR users just how much better the game is in VR. The only people that really understand are people that have actually used VR.

That's the best part. If you could successfully describe it, you wouldn't get the enjoyment of seeing and hearing their first time responses. It can often be as much fun as playing oneself- well almost.
