The fact that it's on the last gen consoles is the one thing that worries me. When I first heard of JWE and that it was going to be made by Frontier I was happy cause I thought like Planet Coaster it would be PC exclusive. Then I found out it was going to be a console game as well so that was a bit of a disappointment and caused some concern.
There were some clear console limitations put on the game. But it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It could have been much worse. The maps being small was one issue and the big mountain in the middle of Sorna was another. Obviously placed in the map that way to keep the hardware from having to render the whole map and all the objects placed into it. It's nice trick though it made the Sorna map less enjoyable. If the maps were bigger people would put everything they could on them and basically ruin the performance. That can't happen on a console cause people can't adjust the graphics settings but on the PC you can. People would tank the frame rate and then complain about how the game is bad.
JPOG just had limits put on items, though the generated islands were also small. You could only have a certain amount of Dinosaurs, buildings and so on. You couldn't have more than 30 dinosaurs or something like that. Frontier did it differently and allowed you to place as much as you wanted but made the maps small so you could only build so much. Basically an illusion of choice. Yeah you could have as many dinos as you wanted and buildings but you only had so much space to work with. So if you decided to do that all your parks would look like a cluttered mess. There was no way you could build a big park and keep it aesthetically pleasing.
The limits JPOG had were also on the PC though you could change them in a config.ini file. It was really simple. But if you were not able to do it you were stuck with the console limits.
But the game also being on last gen consoles is my main and biggest concern for now. I would like to see JWE2 that makes improvements over the last game. Not the same console limitations to come back in the sequel cause Frontier decided to push the game onto console hardware that was already outdated when it released. JWE looked amazing even on consoles. But PC gamers can always increase our graphics. But graphics aren't the issue, other things are. There just some things we can't fix with tweaking options in a menu.
I would like to think that JWE2 for the current gen consoles and PC wouldn't be held back by the game also being on last gen consoles and the last gen consoles would get an inferior version but I don't see that happening. Years ago if you were stuck on the last gen consoles you would get the inferior versions of new games. That doesn't happen anymore cause they don't want to upset the console owners and hear them whine. So everyone gets the same game. The only special treatment the PC gets is that we can turn our graphics settings higher.
I can see why they would also have a version for last gen consoles with how hard it is to get the new ones. It's the same way with graphics cards for PC gamers. People are having a hard time getting them.
We will just have to wait and see what happens.
