Keep getting killed by System Authorities

When I am able to connect to the game at all, I will get about an hour of playtime and amass a small chunk of money. I even managed to buy a hauler, though there are no improved FSDs anywhere I can reach. Despite this, one of a few things inevitably happens:

- I disco inside the station while docking/undocking, and get blown up, along with my cargo;
- I take a mission to deliver goods, only to have it vanish when I try to deliver it; or
- I enter a system to make a delivery, have the cops announce "CRIME DETECTED PEWPEWPEWPEWPEW" and blow me up.

This seems to happen with depressing regularity when I have invested most of my money in a cargo that I am carrying... and nothing illegal. Freakin TEA. Carrying tea is unhealthy, it seems. None of the things I am carrying are illegal in Styx.

I am really getting frustrated, because the random connection issues are bad enough without some never-explained game mechanic deciding that since my balance is low now is a good time to take me out. Am I DWB? What the...?

Any help/guidance is appreciated.

Immediately log out and then back in. If you log out inside of a station the game will move you out of the station when you log back in.

I take a mission to deliver goods, only to have it vanish when I try to deliver it; or

Known issue. Relog TWICE. The missions will re-appear.

I enter a system to make a delivery, have the cops announce "CRIME DETECTED PEWPEWPEWPEWPEW" and blow me up. [...] Freakin TEA.

A few things might be happening here:

You might be accepting near-expired missions, don't accept missions with less than 10 minutes on the clock. When a mission expires any cargo you are carrying associated with that missions will become "stolen" (which is illegal) and you will earn yourself a fine. Carefully manage how much time you think you need to make that delivery. If a mission expires while you are docked check if there is a black market at the station. If there isn't, do a silent running exit of the station and jettison the cargo once you are outside of the no fire zone. Make sure you pay the fine within 24hr.

You could be carrying illegal cargo. I found a station in Beta 2 where water was illegal (booze was fine though, system must be inhabited by robots). What you should do is settle into a single trade route and take note of what different stations consider as illegal (which can be found by selecting the station in the system view).

This happened to me. I took a mission without checking the expiry time on it. Jumped in to the system to deliver, and thought I'd just get some bounties at the Nav Point first. By the time I checked the mission time, there was only 3 mins left on the clock. Didn't make it to the port in time so failed the mission.

To make matters worse, I forgot to dump the cargo when I left that system, got scanned after an interdiction and was then wanted.

Holy crap, you found Dwarf Fortress in space! :D

I checked the systems, and none of the things I was carrying were illegal. I was only running one mission, which was to deliver 3 crates of grain to Styx (grain is not illegal). I had also filled the other 13 bays of my hauler with tea (not illegal), and was on my way to Chu's. I don't THINK I had any unpaid fines, but I could very well have... Every time I try to pay fines, even at the station where I supposedly owe them, it won't let me do so (despite having more than enough credits to do so). I think the fine paying system is deeply flawed :p

Sounds like you're living Dwarf Fortress in space. You'll get the hang of space law. Basically: if you think doing something will get you shot, doing that thing will get you shot. If you don't think doing something will get you shot, doing that thing will get you shot.
