So im traveling half way between colonia and established normal space and im thinking my ship may not make it all the way.... that being said if I was to self destruct does all the planets Ive scanned stay with me so i can cash that in or does that get wiped as well?..

You'll lose any unsold data, and end up in the last port you docked in, unless you choose the free sidewinder option, then you'll repsawn at your starting location, but then you'll lose your current ship forever too.

Question what the issue you are having? Are you having heat issue crashing into Planet and Stars? Was it just a bad landing on a Planet? Using neutron star and gaining damage from it.
If you are heading back and having problems with Planets. Best trick is offset your course a few degrees so it prevent you from having issue with the Planet.
If heat issue and crashing into the sun. Learn to hit Throttle down when you see the 4 3 2 1
Avoid using neutron star if it causing damage.

You might consider one of the planetary facilities listed in this article. They form a sort of highway of waystations...
