Keeping behind an Anaconda's thrusters in an Asp

Thanks for all these insightful posts, loads of useful stuff I didn't know.

I read somewhere that the Elite Anacondas in the assassination missions are able to turn so well because their AI uses every trick in the book and manages their power distribution extremely quickly and efficiently, so while they're not really cheating, they do have the skills and reflexes of genius ninjas. I decided to try to learn to fly properly while in my A-spec Asp too, and lost many millions in insurance to these guys.

I think it'd be easier to deal with if the rest of the NPCs in the game couldn't be defeated so easily. I've played since late Beta and still don't know which direction I'll go if I boost with FA Off, because the only time I might need it is when faced with a billion-credit Murder Monk.

The only viable means to hunt these guys is in a Viper. Full stop.

Eagle will run circles around it but doesn't pack enough punch to down the thing. You can be scraping its shields off for hours, you won't get anywhere.

Although possible with an A-rated Asp, the likelihood of a repair bill nullifying all the rewards is extremely high. So high in fact it makes me want to say forget it.

If you own a well equipped ship beyond the Asp, why would you bother in the first place. Them 200K (plus some change for bounty) is peanuts, nothing more.

My advice, hop in a Viper, max it out, get exercisin'! Good luck!

The reasoning for me was to try to get my Empire rank up so I could get my hands on a Clipper, but a Viper probably does sound like the way to go. I have a Python now, but a Viper would be expendable, cheap and probably more satisfying.

I'd always figured that the anaconda would behave similar to the Atlas in mechwarrior. Massive, bristling with weapons, but ultimately slow. The ship, in my opinion, is far too agile for its size, but it would never be nerfed due to its sheer price.

as for staying behind it, it's difficult in nearly any ship without a solid understanding of fight assist off mechanics; but that's not an issue when wings comes out.
