Keeping Equipment When Upgrading Ships

Is it possible to keep our existing equipment when we upgrade ships and transfer that equipment into the new ship?

Or do we lose it all when we upgrade say our heavily modified viper to an asp. Can we get he opportunity to transfer the upgraded equipment into the new Asp?

I think the modules are specific to their ships. Think of it as a Sidewinder Kill Warrant Scanner vs. a Viper Kill Warrant Scanner

Currently you can't. You can't even switch the location of a specific module (e.g. move your Cargo Rack to another Internal Module slot).

However you get your money back when selling the ship (But you still need to find the module after that)

Hopefully this will be possible for Gamma/Release (Especially moving a module from a slot to another; that would be really useful for weapons and internal modules)

That's the bit I'm thinking of. Spend an age finding an awesome bit of kit then you either keep the ship or lose the part when you up/downgrade.

I would like to be able to do this.
It would make experimenting with weapons and modules easier.
