Keeping track of which 'roids you have mined.

Any advice for keeping track of which rocks in a cluster you have mined? I go chase down an errant Gold rock, turn around and they all look the same...:(

I would love to know this ... I gave up on mining for exactly this reason!
.
+1 rep for asking the question that has bugged me since I tried mining!!!!!!

I only did a few hours mining just to try it out, I'd start on the edge of a cluster and orient using some background feature like a nebula, at least you'll know you aren't doubling back on yourself or going around in circles. The local star is good as well, just keep moving in the direction where your facing the lit side of the 'roids.

The problem comes when you are in the middle of the field and having to move up or down to another rock or chasing ore.

I wonder if you could mine the ore while another player ran around and scooped it?

Excellent topic. It would be nice if there was a way to mark check roids. Perhaps they could create an advanced refinery module that would enable this, or allow a new scanner module that would allow us to mark the roids.

What I do to avoid returning to a roid I already checked/mined is stay on the side of the sun hitting the roids, and move in a set direction, careful to never double back.

The rock you are currently mining will sho on your radar so you can't lose track of that one. I just mine in rings rather than clusters as there is a endless supply of rocks. Even then I have ended up at a rock I had already mined, what are the chances!

This needs to be fixed though. There should be upgrades available for retrieval droids, scanning rocks and marking rocks.

Exactly this! I wish the rings didn't slow down the game so much, but they're much easier to mine than the clusters, where you sometimes try to laser the same rock three or four times before finally giving up and jumping out :).
