Key Bindings Lost Every Logoff

Hi,

I'm not sure if that has been answered, I did find others having the same problem when I did a search in the forums, but no answers in those threads.

I keep losing all my key bindings on my control pad on every exit of the game. I don't always lose some keyboard bindings, but always all the bindings of the control pad. Am I missing a step to save these somewhere? I notice that there is a dropdown menu at the top of the controls binding page with options such as mouse/kb controller, joysticks I think and one that says empty. In any case, if there is a way that I could not have these erased on every log off, that would be sweet. To be more precise, it's when I exit the game entirely, not just log off to the home screen I think.

You could try finding the folder where bindings are held, it should be in a location like this
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings\
Copy one of the .binds files and rename it MyBindings.binds.
Go into game, select MyBindings from the drop down at the top of the controls menu then set all you binds again.
As you are using a custom file it won't be overwritten by the application.

That said it sounds like the game might have an issue saving your file if it's losing them every time you exit so this may not work.

Do you disconnect the controller before you quit? If so maybe that's doing it as Elite no longers sees it connected to wipes the mappings.

Thanks for the help and reply, I might do that. I do not disconnect my controller, it turns off automatically after the computer is shut down or if it is inactive for a while. Also, it erases even my kb bindings sometimes, not just controller.... maybe I'm the only one.

I'm having this issue too. I have a Thrustmaster Warthog plus Saitek pedals and I set my keybindings yesterday and copied the Custom.binds to create a backup. Today, although both the original and backup binds files still exist and are correct, thje custom binds option does not appear in the dropdown. I can choose the standard 'default' layouts (KB&M, generic joystick and Warthog etc) but the custom option does not show.

I have not disconnected my devices since shutting down my computer and the standard Thurstmaster Warthog bindings work fine (hateful though and I remapped most of them over the space of a few hours). I just CBA to do this again, to be honest.

Infuriating.

I have experienced the same issue. My key bindings disappeared. I did not disconnect my warthog or throttle. I placed my backup in the key binding file and is still refuses to acknowledge it in the drop down menu. When will they admit there is a problem that makes the game unmanageable.

I am having exactly the same problem have saved the bindings to a separate file on another hard drive. When I start the game after shutting the computer down there are no bindings for my Xbox 360 controller in the original or the backup. I also do not disconnect my controller very frustrating.

Snap. Not lost but all I do is just pull out the USB and re-insert it and bingo, all re-installed.

I am having this same issue myself. I copied "ControlPadYaw.binds" to the AppData directory and renamed it "MyControlPadYaw.binds". Upon changing binds, the game stuck ".tmp<numbers>" on the end. When I logged out then back in, "MyControlPadYaw" was no longer a choice.

For extra fun, when I try to change keybinds on any of the bindings shown in Elite Dangerous/Options/Bindings/ in-game, the game client crashes. Fun fun. I have a ticket open.

Had the same issue back a while ago. Turned out that the keybind file was set to read only and the game was making temporary files to replace it. Setting the ownership/permissions back ended up sorting it out.
