Kickstart boxed edition contents : proposed subsitution

If you backed during the kickstarter £60 or more, you're getting a DVD copy of the game. Considering the removal of the offline mode and the fact that there will be a large number of constant updates, rendering the DVD obsolete within weeks,

Is it worth it to even get the optical media in any case?

I don't think it is.

Everyone who is getting the media, already has the chance to download the game right now anyway. Anyone who was relying on the offline mode and can't play online, well, they arne't getting any use of the game now anyway. Not getting the media isn't a huge detriment any longer. If you install off the DVD as soon as you start to play the game yo'ull be updating it anyway, regardless if you do it this year or two years time.

Personally, I'd love it if Frontier dropped the DVD and put this post in, instead.

You mean that poster? I'm sure I remember something like that from my mate's original C64 version.

I don't know much about Kickstarter (and don't mean to start anything by asking this), but can they arbitrarily make such sweeping changes to the rewards after the payments have been made?

I don't care if there's a dvd in my box or not..

BUT.. I want it full of goodies so I get the thrill I got in 84 when I opened it.

That brings back memories!! I wish I still had my 84box. Unbelievable that now you get a leaflet with a URL for the manual for many games, like with Dragon Age Inquisition....

Ohhhh don't get me on manuals, I could rant for hours on manuals.

I miss them so so much. I have a 360 and PS4 and it's so depressing when you pay £30-45 for a new game, open the box and there's a DVD and 1 sheet of paper.. I desperately miss manuals of old like Elite, Ultima manuals, etc etc. my favourite manuals were done by Microprose, their manuals were a total work of art and often 200-300 pages of sheer delight.

It might be because I'm old but I loathe online/digital manuals. They do nothing for me and they aren't even fun to read. I too bought the new Dragon Age (PS4) and was yet again disappointed by no manuals whatsoever.

I can understand games like CoD,BF,Halo etc etc having no manuals, you really don't need it.. Load the game and kill things, but in my opinion rpgs do need paper manuals. There's so much more to the game, complex things as well like skill trees and crafting and the manual sets the scene and gets you into the lore of the game.

RIP Game manuals. :'(
