Kickstarter for a wider VR headset.

Those guys are late to the party.

By some estimates they are looking to release next year. But they already admit it's going to be prohibitively expensive.
Like $3000+ for the hmd. And it would need something like titans in sli just to run.

Besides everyone assume wider fov is one the main differences in second generation rift or vive.
But that's years off. But probably closer than a new kickstarter project.

Both of us have research on this for years, but we didn't publish it. But StarVR will mainly for business customers. Rift or vive will not publish this kind of design, since they must let their machine to run on as many as computers.

Precisely. It's well known that current gen vr isn't for everyone and wasn't meant to be either.
But 3-4 years from now we should have the gpu's to run larger and wider panels at the framerates current gen is now.

It's just a matter of having patience to wait.

Personally there is nothing I actually want more in my HMD's than a wider fov.
But I honestly think either oculus or vive is closer to a gen 2 with this than "yet another kickstarter headset".

I'll just wait for the Vive MK II. This sounds too ambitious for my comfort level. They're only asking for 50,000 which just seems wrong given the complexities involved.

I see no need for kick-starting another entrant.
There are already wide FoV VR headsets in the pipe and in commercial use.
Right now: we aren't up to pushing more pixels... so you are either going to have terrible res or horrible framerate. Not to mention the limitations of the connecting cable (8k @ 90Hz? I'd like to see that).
Then there's the question of lens clarity off-center, and of overall weight.

No. I'll pass. I think there are enough companies working the issue right now.

Shipping in April 2017, I find this somewhat unlikely.
Only supports OSVR for which right now there is very little in the way of content.
No where near enough details on this thing, tech specs for the screens, lenses, tracking etc.
Only 50k to Kickstart the production of a VR headset can't be right as it's way too little. So what is the Kickstarter money wanted for and what other funding arrangements do they have in place?
They want people to throw a few hundred dollars at them but there's just too many unknowns. Get some demo time with it in the press so we can hear about what it's like.
