Kill mission questions

I cannot get my head around kill missions. Sorry if I am going over old ground.

You pick a mission kill X in Y system.
Fly to Y then what?
Fly in SC checking out USS and or SSS?
What extra equipment do I need?

You can try in USS's or SSS's (although I don't recommend SSS's) and at Nav beacons and RES's. Or you can equip your ship with a FSD interdictor and pull your targets directly from SC.

Yeah, used to be always found in USSs but I think they said that targets can now be found in supercruise, so you need an interdictor module (supposedly the damage caused by interdicting is reduced now).
