Newcomer / Intro Kill missions need a redesign

The whole thing is a mess.

1) Finding eligible targets for missions can be really difficult. USSes are way too rare to be able to find 4 targets in a system w/o a nav beacon.
2) No way to determine mission progress. I killed a trader in a target system, didn't get any indication of progress.
3) Automatic "abandon" mission. What if I don't want to abandon the mission ? I am given no choice. Sure I can keep with the previous objectives, but in my transactions it's listed as an "Abandon" mission.

Fully agree, i spent over an hour looking for 3 pirate targets. Luckily all 3 were in a same place. Reward? 10k... You're better off claiming random bounties. Randomness of USS is just tedious and frustrating.

Well if you look around you will see them. Also there is more then only nav beacon you can also interdict people.
Also not in the mission it self on the left panel ?

Well not true if you hunt wanted people and they are also part of the mission you can get say like 10 k for the mission and 50 k for the bounty's.

But then again i mostly only just bounty hunt in independent systems so i don't need to worry about bad rep as long as you don't attack the ruling faction.

When you look at the mission details in the transactions panel, it shows how many of the targets have been killed (at least, as of 1.03).

I agree, there needs to be a better way to find the right USS. For pirate hunting, the interdiction is useless, because the targets I pull out of FSD are *never* pirates, no matter how big the bounty on their head is.

It took my 3 hours to find the 7 pirates I needed to kill for this afternoon's mission. Three hours of dog fighting would be good. Three hours of flying around stars randomly looking for USS, jumping into them only to find it is cargo from a blown up ship, and then doing it again and again.... not so good.

People, please USS are UNidentified Signal Sources. It's like walking into a room and being told of the 60 envelopes on table 10 have a $100 bill inside, while the others could hold other things, and some have notes saying if you give up looking for the $100 bills they will give you $200 RIGHT NOW.

If you want find pirates RIGHT NOW then you need a FRAME SHIFT INTERDICTOR to try and pull them out of supercruise when you see them buzzing around the system all over the place.

Keep checking your navigation tab for USS`s. That way you wont miss the ones that drift by out of your field of view.

Targets with bounties don't count for kill missions.

Killed a wanted trader, no progress, killed a clean trader, +1 kill count. Same system, same ship type.

Actually, it's worse than you think. You aren't getting a counter for mission progress because you didn't progress. It seems like only kills inside instances count towards your tally, and there is a counter. I know for sure there is one on pirate kill missions. So far I have yet to see a supercruise interdiction (either NPC on me, or me on NPC) count despite it being obvious that they are what I'm looking for (Cargo scanner, demanding payment, and being in the pirate faction). The kill missions need some dev love and they need it now.

Even the steal X item missions are horrible. The best way to complete those is to buy the cargo, find a friend and abandon it. They pick it up and jettison it so you can steal it.

I've had very inconsistent results with kill pirate missions. Most of the time they take a SERIOUSLY long time to complete, and twice now I've been on 6/7 pirate kills when I go to a USS where a neutral NPC will give me a counter offer with alternative targets. The counter offer is fine, I like the option and it adds colour to the universe, what I absolutely seethe about is that once I've had my counter offer, my mission kills get reset, and all my progress is lost.

As somebody who values the PvE side of the game, I'd like to see missions addressed as soon as possible, as they are certainly not working as intended.

I have found the easiest way to get USSs is to slow my speed to 30kps, target a random station, line up on that station and just wait.....within 10-30 seconds a USS will pop up and you are already on top of it. Target it, drop supercruise and do your thing.
Rinse and Repeat as needed.

The beauty of it is that you don't have to wait 5 minutes flying to the damn thing......it will already be within the 1Mm mark.

hope that helps,

Cheers,
Honez

Agreed, took me a hour to kill 4 pirates the other night.
Last night I spent 2 hours looking for TWO bounty hunters, and didn't find any and had to abandon (Srsly, don't even bother with that).

With that said, it DOES track progress of your kills in transactions, but yeah - the whole system isn't fun, and it should be both a VIABLE and FUN way to gain reputation (for those of us trying).

One of the worst things about kill x pirate missions is if it is a branching mission and you find the npc who gives you the option to abandon the mission after you have killed some pirates it resets the tally. So I spent 2 hours yesterday finding 4 out of 5 pirates then I ran into the branch npc and it reset the mission back to 0. Abandoned the mission.

Then I turned in the 100k bounties I had picked up in the 2 hours and laughed at the paltry 10k I missed out on from the mission.

In Beta the HUD showed on the top right hand side when your kill counted towards a mission. Where did that go? Was really useful.
