Kill skimmer mission question?

Hi all,

I've been doing a "kill "x" number of skimmers in "system moon/planet X" type mission. However there don't seem to be enough skimmers to kill at the particular base I'm at. I need 12, but there is only 10 so far. I've explored base quite extensively, and even blown up a generator, all of the turrets etc.. no more skimmers are appearing..

Anybody got any tips/ideas? Thanks in advance ..

Not directly related to the OP but....

How difficult are these skimmer missions? Is there a great deal of variety in the difficulty? What kind of minimum spec ship would you recommend?

I've been seeing a lot of these and they always seem to pay well but as I don't have any engineering on my ships I've sort of avoided combat since my recent return to the bubble.

no ship specs just a ship that can get there and that has a SRV bay

I have noticed that the skimmers only seem to appear if you get out of your ship into your SRV. So, I normally land near the base, hop into SRV, and as soon as the skimmers appear I get back into the ship and take them out. If there aren't enough, then mode switch (while in your ship). If the defence turrets respawned, then the skimmers should too.

Follow your srv scanner theres usually an outpost or two nearby.

Incase you dont know, Top level of the scanner is manmade or other structures

Edit. If you cant take out patrol fighters. Outposts are a good option also. Re-instancing also regens outposts.

Thanks again guys,

had to jump out of the system in the end, to repair my ship, when I came backm the skimmers had respawned :) happy days.

You can also just look for blue POIs in the vicinity of the station. It's easy enough to find skimmers of the correct faction that way.

In fact, you don't even have to go to the defended base at all, which can be a good strategy in some cases.

I did a lot of skimmer missions this way, back when all I had was a Sidewinder.

It's been a really, really long time since I've even seen a Blow up a Skimmer mission at all. But it didn't take me long to figure out the best way to do these is by not going to where they tell you to go.

Wait, wha? You heard me, don't go where they tell you to go. Instead, approach the place they tell you to go, and cruise around it, looking for those big radar circles indicating Points of Interest near where they want you to go. You'll find outposts, camps, mining operations, settlements, cargo caches - all with their own little swarms of skimmers for your destroying delight. Makes this mission take about 10 minutes longer, but a good cargo cache or some Cracked Industrial Firmware makes it all good.

What a lovely helpful bunch you lot are :D Thanks a lot. Incidentally, its the first mission of that type I've done, and I rather enjoyed it.. +rep all round ED community ftw.
