Kill Warrant Scanner - what exactly does it do again?

This has me puzzled, I've got one, I use it, scan complete.......

Doesn't seem to make any difference as to whether I get paid, I can just start shooting when the standard scan shows them as wanted.

All it seems to do is give the enemy ship 10 seconds grace to get attacking me.

Am I using it wrong? Why do we need one?

If you use the standart scanner you only get the bounty issued from the main faction in your current system, with the kill warrant scanner you get also the bountys issued from other factions/corporations/independends issued on the same target.

As I see it, the KWS allows you to scan clean targets to see I they are wanted in other systems than the one you're currently in. Kind of enlarges your bounty scope. You do have to be in the right system to claim bounty though. You can find the info on the bounty on your left panel , under contacts. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I'm in Empire space, but I scan every target before I engage it (even if it's shooting me). I earn the local bounty, which I encash, but I got an extra 20k of Alliance and another 11k in Federation bounties (for the same targets) that I still need to collect on. It's a slight chore, but gets you more Cash for each kill (if you dnt mind the journey to go collect).

BTW, is there a limit to how far away independent systems show up in the scanner, or can you at least see which system the bounty is in when you scan someone? If someone has a bounty (only) in an independent system 200 LY away, they are not that attractive a target…

I'd be prepared to pay more for an upgraded scanner if it was quicker.

Yes, extending the range is not worth the money in my opinion, but making it faster would be.

Features listed are range, scan duration, power consumtion, and if I remember correctly, they even got a heat rating. (But I might be wrong on the latter.)

I am not sure but I *think* I've seen one in the million-credit range that listed as 5 seconds scan duration...
