Kill warrant scanner

SO I have this KWS, and it's great... Interdict a wanted ship, scan it, get 6k bounty in local system, plus 11k bounty from feds and 8k bounty from empire. Lovely....

However I hear talk of people scanning ships that are clean in the local system to get bounty. I see how this works, but how do you know the're wanted elsewhere? Does the KWS of a clean ship then flag up the wanted label after completion?

And in doing so, is it safe to attack them? OR are they still marked clean in the local system? and you either wait for them to attack or you shoot and get a bounty?

A KWS cross references a target ship with all known jurisdictions... letting you know their total bounty value across known space.

It is certainly possible to find bounties from other sytems on ships that are clean in the current system.

however... It does NOT give you authorisation to engage them in the current system if they are clean there. The local authorities dont care if he is a mass murderer in another system... if you attack a clean ship you are commiting a crime :)

Yes.

If there is no jurisdiction (Anarchy system) then yes, you can attack them without reprisal, in a system with jurisdiction you will get a bounty on your head for assault/murder.

If you look in the contacts tab on the left screen after you KWS a clean ship it will show a bounty. And yes, if they are clean in that system it is a crime to initiate combat with them. Only go after big ones that will pay you more than enough to get rid of the fines from shooting and hopefully killing the target. You won't have to worry about this in anarchy systems.

I've scanned loads of ships and it never changes their clean/wanted status

how do i know if they have a bounty? where does it display? never seen anything...but often I've shot them down CLEAN anyways (Anarchy systems) and gotten a bounty notice once they've died.

The KWS will not change their wanted status.

If it finds extra bounties, it will show you the total value in the left hand contact panel.

I don't think it's a crime to attack a clean ship in an Anarchy system is it, or does that make the local faction angry regardless?

To see out-of-system bounties you need to view the ship in the left 'contacts' panel. The 'wanted' or 'clean' status only applies to the current system, so scanning won't change the status of the target. It also won't give you authority to shoot the target if it is clean in the current system (you will become wanted yourself, unless its an anarchy system).

Sorted.... I just wanted to know how i'd know if they were wanted elsewhere if clean here. I've normally targetted only wanted ships, but sometimes the pickings are slim, so if I can scan clean and find a bounty, I'll interdict and force them to shoot first :p

Unless its an anarchy.

Don't care about local factions, unless its Dark wheel, Pilots federation, or alliance, then I only take risks for the missions.

Some anarchy systems have security vessels. You won't get a bounty or fine but they'll engage you for attacking a clean target.

I avoid these systems.

.

How to you force them to shoot first? Send them offensive messages via the coms channel? Flash your lights in front of them?

What's the difference between a cheap and an expensive Kill Warrant Scanner, aside from the price? Do more expensive ones scan faster? Find more bounties?

Longer range is the one thing the outfitting menu tells us, which of course comes at a higher power cost. Other than that, who except Frontier knows?

I mostly use the KWS at nav beacons or resource extraction sites, but I will sometimes interdict ships based on their local faction and give them a scan.

I also found out the other day that if you are in an anarchy system, and their are stations within the system that have allegiance to one of the main factions (federation, empire, alliance), wanted statuses will show up for that faction without using the KWS.
