Killed a wing of 8 sidewinders - missions says I killed just 1?

Uhm... is this a bug?

I took a mission to kill 7 or so pirates in a nearby system.

Off I go, and I find a wing of 8 sidewinders in SC. All wanted. Interdict one, start blowing stuff up. Some cells and a lot of multi-cannon shells later, I have 8 Sidewinder wrecks floating about. I check the mission... 1/7.

Hmm...

OK, what gives?

Must be a bug maybe. Just report it.

it could be that only one was a "pirate" and the rest were his defacto cargo scoops? they don't have a lot of room so it'd kinda make sense if the rest were technically "smugglers" instead of "pirates"

I guess the other 7 were'nt the Sidewinders you were looking for! If you look over at left (below where it says the target is wanted) - it will say "mission target" in black, so its hard to read.

Did it say "Pirate" instead of "Wanted" on the HUD when targeted? Yeah, killed a bunch of those, they don't count towards, ahem, pirate-killing missions. Not one, ever. Because... reasons.

Check your HUD for "Mission Target" underneath the target info. Those do count. If you can see it that is because in 1.4 it's somewhat black. On black.

Edit: So ninja'd not even funny.

Uhm... I actually never noticed it say "pirate". Always "wanted". Unless you're talking about the contact details tab. I should check that more often. It seemed like they were all wanted and from the same faction, so it's a bit weird that only one would be a valid target...

On a side note - I can't seem to log into the support site. :| Could someone please check to see if this is only on my end? I mean, I enter the email / pass and it SEEMS like everything is working fine, but I'm still not logged in. :/

Yup, I noticed this last night on a pirate kill mission. Only one of the 8 sideys was the mission target (all were wanted though).

Killed them all, without a shot being fired on either side!

Gotta love the FAS!

Now, If only we had some bright RED TEXT to tell us when we are onto a 'Mission Target'..........................(Roll on 1.5 ;) )

Good work on that though CMDR

I hear in 1.5 that the "target" font will no longer be black so that it can actually be seen. Cheers to that!

Been there since the wings update, never bothered to report though. Just kill the one that is your target and jump out again, Sideys shouldn'd mass lock you :D

I think it has something to do with the faction they're allied with. I was tasked with eliminating 12 members of the "pirate gang" in Dinda. But it didn't name the gang!

It's obviously going to be someone who isn't associated with the faction offering the Mission. And - presumably - someone who isn't associated with the major of that system faction, either. And - since they're described as "Pirates" - I guess they'll be wanted, too.

In this case I took out a lot of wanted ships until I noticed my "completed" number jump up when I killed a ship associated with a particular minor faction (in this case, the "Brotherhood of Dinda"). After that point, well it's easy enough to just keep scanning until you find the right ship(s) to kill. Hyperspace interdiction, or hanging around RES/NB etc - whatever you choose to do.

As has been pointed out already "Wanted" and "Pirate" are not the same thing. Smugglers, Murderers, Assaulters, speeders, all sorts of things can get you wanted. But don't make you a pirate. If the missions says "Pirates", you have to identify them some other way than simply looking for a "Wanted" flag. And membership of a Pirate faction seems to fit perfectly.

I always thought of that particular wing to be rookies earning their promotion to being a pirate by being tested by a senior pirate.
Only one is the target, forget the rest.
