Killed by an indestructable ASP. Progress is running backwards

Thanks to anyone trying to be constructive.

I think I have to be more clear about what bothers me so much about this situation:

First of all I only play in solo or privates groups. Not because players being pirates bother me, but because of the bunch of raving idiots shooting everyone on sight, getting a hard one from       slapping newbes and because of apperently most of the playerbase and the people running this game are ok with that.

I am back after a long break (about 2 month). I stared yesterday with a friend. He tried mining for the first time, and I covered him in my Vulture. Whenever someone scanned him for cargo, I scanned that NPC, my friend deliverd one hit on him and I engaged the NPC, so we could share the bounty and the cargo profite for being in a wing. This worked great and was fun, after a while my friend switched to a combat ship as well and we engaged wanted targets in a res site. Untill the game decided, that the NPC we engaged, who was defenatly not shown to any of us as being in a wing, was indeed in a wing of 5, including a Phthon. This was dangerous enough but on top of that I was engaged by a ship which did not register as hostile, so I could not decern it on the radar amidts about 7 ships and I could not use the 'target highes threat' function. And so I died, setting back about 2 hours of progess.

Today I stared trading to make up for that. I switched to my Type 7, picked a nice trade route and started the grind. As always I get interdicted once in a while, when I need to travel to another system I just submit and highwake, when I am in the targetsystem, I target the NPC interdicting me and make a quick decision if I should run or fight, because NPCs will follow me and interdict me about 7 times on the 1000ls to the target station.

The guy interdicting me this time was an ASP scout with a rating of 'competent' so I submitted, deployed weaopns and engaged. The NPS was dumb, he had several of the 'i just stop my ship and roll' phaes and I fired on him with 2 or all 4 beamlaser turrets for about 15minutes with his hull degrading extremly slow. His two turrets could always hit me, no matter what range, no matter if I threw chaff. And of course when he brougt down my shield the first thing he hits is my canopy so I suffacated because I could not reach the station in time after that.

This did not only reset my progess but put me back because I lost ship and cargo.

I do not mind the game to have a challenge. Its the way the callenge sneaks up on my. Targeting broken, wingdisplay broken. Small to medium ships which all of a sudden withstand very much more damage than usual.
People tell me, I have to consider everything I do in this game, that every decision has a huge impact. But the information I need to make a decision is crap, when the game is bugged or when the game cheats.

And when I do one wrong decision after hours of gameplay, the progress from that time is reset or even worse.

And this pulls every fun from this game and I even regrett putting that little of my spare time into it today and yesterday.

There's really no reason a Vulture should ever be at risk against an Asp. Even a player piloted one. It's one of the ships that a Vulture can easily engage and disengage from. The fact that you hung around long enough for class 1 beam turrets to plink away and turn you into slag implies you're just an inexperienced pilot.

I'd suggest going through as many combat tutorial and tip guides as you can. Maybe even wing up with someone who can show you the ropes.

I've never seen an indestructable NPC and I've been killing lots of NPCs since launch. Many of them were Asps.

You tried to use a T7 as a combat ship? I think I found your problem.

So I am at a point where I can not take it any more.

I ground credits by trading for about 2 hours to have all this progress destroy be being killed by an NSC ASP Scout which even with 4 beamlasser turrets could not be brought und 50% hull, whichs turrets could always fire on me even when I deployed chaff.

I know, this post will create a huge amount of answers from the die hard PVP, wie play all day, we are so tough guys, but honelty, I have come to a point where I am complety fed up with this game bull    ting my by bugs or non rational behavior, stopping any progres and taking out every fun for me out of the game!

I play for recreation! I have a day job! I cant put 50hours a week into this. I just want to play....like for fun. But aperently I cant.

I am sorry, I am just very agitated and depressed right now.

It is very difficult to judge what actually happened. I never take these kinds of posts for granted.
I never encountered indestructible npc ships myself in 2000 hours of playing the game.
Very often I suspect that the actual sequence of events was completely different from what is reported on the forums.
But I don't really know of course.
Perhaps you should at least file a bug report?

So you lost a ship. So what? It is a game as you said yourself. Why is this such a big deal. I have lost a bunch myself.
Are you perhaps depressed because you did not have insurance money and have to start in Sidewinder now?
Or are you too fixated on this 'progress' thing?

EDIT:
In the meantime I read you only lost the insurance money for a T7 and a bit of cargo.
That really is nothing. You can earn that back in no time. You will laugh about it in a week or so.

In a follow-up post he stated he was flying a T7 and tried to fight the asp using four turrets...

I've also spent about 1500hrs RES farming, and I'm probably not very good at it, but I never seen anything bugged or anything that couldn't be dealt with. I think you just need a bit more practice and experience to figure out what's going on. No need to complain, just keep trying, and maybe watch some videos on combat techniques. It's only a game.

Yes just read it.
Probably didn't do him a lot of good when the ASP was chaffing.
And T-7's go down incredibly fast if they are only lightly outfitted to carry as much cargo as possible.

I'm sorry for your loss OP, and sorry you encountered a few bugs.

However, you made mistakes :
Getting engaged by several ships, some of whom you can't see on your radar ? Run ASAP. Yes, it's anoying, yes, it's a bug, BUT the main fact is that you are taking tons of damage, so instead of staring are your hull % plumetting, you should just run.

Also, even if you could clearly see the 5 ships engaging you, you should have run, ESPECIALLY if you're rusty and didn't play for 2 months.

Then there is the fight in the T7
Again, just run. Jump to another system, come back, new instance, new chance.
You could have jumped, lost 2 minutes, and lived happily ever after in your T7.
Here, you chose to fight, saw you were loosing, but just kept fighting...

The Asp was probably carying some armor upgrades, and the T7 weapons are not big, and not very well placed anyway, so it's normal that his hull wasn't "melting" as fast as you wished.

To conclude, i'll just remind you that in every of those situations, you had options that you chose to ignore, and died because of that.
Not because of bugs, or IA cheats, or anything like that.

They said they were in a T7 with 4BeamTurrets - not their Vulture.

If you are going to insult someone at least read what you are slagging off, it just does yourself down, not them.

[rolleyes]

Two things I would recommend:

1. Don't try to get his hull down, go for his Powerplant. On an AspE/S you should get that down faster then the hull
2. If it looks bad smash the legs. No point in staying in a fight you are about to lose. Even less so if the insurance cut hurts the Bankaccount.

This. Always shoot out the powerplant of an Asp. It's very exposed and the ship has a terrible pitch rate.

never bring a knife to a gun fight.
Throw it away and runnnnnnnnnnnnn!

Honestly it's the easiest and best possible way out of your situation.
Every now and then I'll encounter a tough npc where even my combat Vultch can get pretty dinged up, and if the tide turns against me, I don't hang around.
Discretion is the better part of valour old chap.

OP there is no shame in running when you're outgunned. And in a T7 you're outgunned by pretty much anything, it's not an agile ship and cannot shield or hull tank to compensate. Learn from this experience and better luck next time.

also no need to cover a friend while mining, don't use the res sites, drop out in the ring away from the site, get 1 lowly npc at the start at most then its you and friend out in the black alone till your full of cargo and heading home.
