Horizons killed by cobra

played last night in my asp explorer and was attacked by cobraiii .my shields are worth 5 and half million credits and the cobra cut through the shields like a knife through hot butter.I had to make a run becoause my guns couldn't make a dent in his shields.he got my armour down to 50% so I had to make a run for it.went to 3 systems away and lo and behold another cobra stared doing same thing.my skill in combat is competent but seems that makes no difference at all.i hope they fix the imbalance with this because the game is almost unplayable for me.oh and my armour is worh two and a half million.bill:O

Asp is not a ship you want to get shot at in.. paper thin, so unless u can stay on the target i wouldnt fight the new ai in a asp, just use its great speed to run. I have been getting attacked loads in my python and most of the fights i will run from, and tbh now that i upgraded my thrusters to lvl 3 i hardly get hit at all just spam boost,3 pips to shield rest to engines throw some chaff and wait for ur drives to cycle back on so u can jump out.
If you are thinking about doing some combat grab a vulture and go to a Hires and let the police take most of the beating until u feel that ur skills are up to a bit of dogfighting. also may be a idea to bind flight assist to a button u can reach with ease, and start using ship thrusters to turn while leaving speed in the blue zone

If you can fit it with a LOAD of missiles, you can crush cobras in seconds though, basing this off being in the beta, and some of those missiles were pack hounds.

Darn you guys must be lucky.

I hardly ever get anything below an ELITE Clipper, FAS, FdL or Anaconda tossed at me... Be it Cargo, returning from a Mining Run (no Missions carried) or almost any Mission.
But that's okay - it's my Combat Ranking so I have to expect that. I had enough time to learn when it's time to egress or when to deploy hardpoints & take a shot at it.

I generally welcome the concept of NPCs being a realistic threat and having to work out strategies to stay alive & succeed.
So far, tons of close calls - but no single Insurance Claim in V2.1...

The shields on the Asp aren't great. But it does have numerous smaller internal slots. Put some hull reinforcements in those (very good armor for the weight) and you'll find it's much much tougher. I always do that on my smuggling Asp and then have a bi-weave shield. Also you don't mention it, but where you using 4 PIPS in sys? Anything else is craziness when under fire and you can't run from a Cobra unless you have dirty drives 3 (which I highly recommend on the Asp, mine does 448 m/s now and can outrun the NPC Cobras with ease)

I think I will get a vulture and see how I go.i think running for it might be prudent at this stage until they balance the game out.thanks for advice all.bill

I've been using an Asp for everything, including a fair amount of bounty hunting at RES and nav beacons. I haven't been killed yet (after 82 hours), except I had my canopy blown off and found myself in a gravity well or something because, mysteriously, it took me 3 minutes to get away from the gravity of the star/planet before I could start the 2000ls journey to the nearest station. I exploded just outside the stations slot. I'm not very good in combat, but I know how to survive. If you can afford it, get the military grade armour (6 million) and a 6A shield generator (16 million). You also need 5A thrusters to get away quickly in case it looks like you're going to lose.

It's the same with most ships: An A-rated lesser ship will always be better than a C-rated "better" one - if you get what I mean.
