Killed ships get chance to drop Ammo Crates of their weapon type, you need Ammo Loader module to use

I understand that FD are reluctant to allow Spare Ammo to be loaded as cargo, in order not to unbalance the game in favor of large ships with lots of cargo space versus small, thus invalidating the whole Ammo requirement issue.

This is a different idea:

Killed ships, get a chance to drop Ammo Crates of their ammo-using weapon type/types, able to be picked up by the player, or others, in the same manner as the canisters.

This ammo would be added automatically to the players ammo-using weapons, if any or we could also see the introduction of a Special Ammo Loader module, that would have to be equipped in order to do the sorting and loading, thus balancing the advantage of more ammo, by the occupation of one cargo slot and the respective expense for that mechanism.

What do you think?..

I think this is a good idea. A very good idea.

But I would like to take it a step further. Eventually I would love to be able to find all kinds of stuff in the wreckage of ships. For example a functioning shield booster, an expensive cargo scanner or million credit discovery scanner. You scoop them up and can outfit your ship with them, or sell them. Of course these very expensive things should be a rare find. Finding reusable ammo could be much more common.

When fpa is in and we can use personal firearms, tools and gadgets, we might also find these in ship wrecks. Imagine finding a rare powerful handlaser or something like that.

_______

By analogy with the fuel tanker, which runs only until the tank (8 ton tank - runs only 8 tones)
and ammunition - ammunition found in an amount of 15, 000 units, and the ship is only 2 to 2100 multilateral tools
- means take out only 4,200 ammunition

No way !!!

Sounds too 'gamey'. Any ammo "dropped", even if in some container, wouldn't really be practical to have some loader mechanism to make use of it. If you could just sell it as a commodity, fine.

Same with the other modules idea. They would be unlikely to "drop" in any sort of condition to be usable let alone be put straight into service. Again, have no issues with them being able to be sold as computer parts, ship parts, scrap etc. etc.

I think it can be made to work if it is implemented carefully and it does not have to happen all the time of course.
People love to scavenge. Myself included. For some reason scavenging in games keeps me going and in many games the mechanism is implemented very successfully.
I do agree it would be bad if it felt too gamey, but I am sure FD can come up with some acceptable ideas that would enhance game play and add an addictive fun factor.

At the moment there is no scavenging at all in the game (except for finding a few crates in USS). I think scavenging could be one of the coolest and most exiting jobs in the game, with its own set of tools. I would like to go into shipwrecks and find cool stuff like information, secret military data, cargo, some rare weapons etc. etc.
A tool could be a remote scavenging drone you could use to enter dangerous wrecks, or when FPA is in we might enter wrecks in person.

Remember the scene from Alien 2 when scavengers find the shuttle with Ripley inside? I think that kind of scenes would be cool in a game like this. We would need tools to forcibly open doors, scavenging drones, flashlights, ways to extract data from ship computers etc..

Totally agree, I would love to be able to do some scavenging, this would add to the game depth, motive to explore and great longevity through variety.

Well having the Weapons separate from the cargo bay. It would affect how the game played. Like if you had Cannons all that player will be attacking is ships with Cannons.
